how does one secure/apply for a spot for housing as a freshman is there a form to fill out? And has anybody done so already?

<a href=“TCNJ | The College of New Jersey”>TCNJ | The College of New Jersey;

thanks i filled out all of the survey info…but why does it say my application is “not completed?” And also do we have to make a payment deposit for housing? Or is this part of the second 300 deposit

It won’t be complete until you get assigned a roommate and stuff.

I want to know if the library has books that you can read just for fun. I like reading a lot, and would be a bit disappointed if the library only had like academic books in it. Or do you guys have so much work that there is no time to read for fun?

How did most people you know find a roommate, did they ask online, find one based on similar responses on the housing application, or just leave it to chance?

At first I just assumed everyone let the system pick a roommate for you but it seems like a lot of people are making themselves available or looking to find someone, is this the typical way of doing it? I wouldn’t know how to pick someone based on a first name and a picture.

Hey guys,
I’m hoping I can get your opinions on whether or not I have a good chance of getting into TCNJ. I think I would rather much attend this school than Rutgers, but I’m not sure yet.

SAT: 1850/2400 1200/1600 C.R.=640 W:650 Math: 560
5 Honors/ 1 AP
4 years of tennis. 2 years JV, 2 years Varsity. I’ll be a senior next year, and also a captain.
I’m going to volunteer over the summer at Virtua hospital. Gonna get a lot of hours hopefully!
I’ve received an award in accelerated in chemistry for best grade average, this may be meaningless lol.
I’m also in Spanish Honors Society.
I wanna major in biology or Pre-Medicine.

Thanks in advance to all of those who take the time to answer my question.

Biology is one of the most competitive majors (there is no “pre-med” major). Honestly I would try to improve your SAT scores (particularly your math score). They are definitely not terrible scores but if you really want a solid chance try to get them up a bit. Right now, in my opinion, you would be on the fence so to speak.

Also, if you plan on playing college tennis that MIGHT give you a slight boost.

As of now, I’d say it’s a slight reach. What’s your GPA/class ranking so far? Try to be in the top 15%. And yeah, your math section needs work. Try to get it to at least a 650. Take some practice tests. Usually doing well in this section has more to do with being careful than actually knowing math. Are you applying ED? If you have a 1300 SAT and are top 15% you have a good chance of getting in RD and a great shot getting in ED. Also, be sure to visit and talk to students to make sure you want to come. It’s a lot different from Rutgers.

@ Hazeleyez and Glacius,
Thank you so much for responding! I’m happy to hear that I at least have a slight chance of getting in. I am really aiming to improve my math score. Maybe if I spend special attention in that subject, I can receive a good super score. my GPA is a 3.8, and I believe I may be in the top 25% of my class, or around there.

Lol I apologize, one more thing. Do you mean there is no Pre-medicine major at TCNJ or in general? If there is no Pre-medicine major in general, what would I have to do in order to head into the medical field? Of course I could always ask my guidance counselor this, but I would appreciate your advice too:) I plan on applying RD for TCNJ, and maybe ED for Rutgers, what do you think?

Majoring in biology will basically route you to the pre-med track because the required pre-med courses are fulfilled through the bio major at tcnj. Therefore, you could major in bio and essentially get all your pre-reqs for med school completed (you only need like physics II, which is not required for the bio major itself but for med school). One could also major in anything they want and simply get the pre-reqs done to apply to med school.

therealdeal is absolutely correct. There is no official title of “pre-med.”

I also agree with what Glacius said about visiting. If you haven’t done so already, be sure you physically go to both TCNJ and Rutgers and talk with lots of students. They each offer VERY different settings. I applied to both schools but ultimately chose TCNJ due to various reasons.

therealdeal21 and Hazeleyez,
Thank you so much for responding. I’m quite nervous about college! I guess I’m not so much more nervous about being accepted into one, with exception to TCNJ, but rather more nervous about doing the right things and choosing the right major for myself. Also, I’m nervous about whether or not a college will accept me into their biology field, because I know it’s very competitive, and although I am a good student, I’m definitely not the best.

Don’t be nervous! The great thing is that you don’t HAVE to major in bio to go to med school (if that’s what you want to do). Even if a college doesn’t accept you to their bio program you could always try to transfer into the major.

Sorry, what do you mean? If I don’t get into the Bio program, which I’m assuming is the program I would need to get accepted to in order to major in medicine, I could take the prerequisites separately, and then segue into medicine? Lol sorry for all of the questions, but I just don’t know too much about what I have to do. THANK YOU:)

You don’t have to be in the bio program to apply to med school. It’s just more convenient since almost all the med requirements are included in the bio major curriculum. You can be in any major you want, just as long as you fulfill the med requirements (gen chem, gen physics, lab courses, etc). I’m not sure if I answered your question…

@ Glacius,
Yes, you did answer my question:) Thank you so much. I’m very excited for college, It cannot come soon enough!

hazeleyez, did you take honors chem in freshman year? if so how is the professor in terms of teaching and grading?
