yes, the microscale gen chem lab book should be the lab manual (at least it was for me last year). the bio lab manuals for 185 are purchased through a place in the basement of the library. i went there on move in day and paid $12 for a pile of paper hole punched and bound with a rubber band.

ok so just those two plus the texts. sweet. thanks you two. idk where those student study guides came into my head from glad i don’t need to spend extra cash on them

yeah, i found that a lot of the “recommended” items aren’t really worth the money. if a book comes up for the IDS “class” do not buy it. i bought it and returned it before i even moved in lol. only buy comething if it is “required”

ok. the student study guides said they were components of the required package though? well actually they put them as ‘looseleafs’ and i’m assuming that’s what they mean since it’s the only thing that made sense. also for chem an aris card?

you most likely need to get the aris card (if the book does not come with it)

you have to be REALLY CAREFUL when reading the lists online. sometimes things will be listed multiple times. i’ve had experiences where all the required components were lumped together in one package for one price and then each item was then listed individually and listed as a required component. so whatever you do make sure (especially if you buy from the bookstore online) that you do not purchase the the same items more than once!!!

*also, just for your knowledge, you cannot sell back any item that is looseleaf to the bookstore. so, if you are ever given a choice between bound book form and looseleaf, just know that you’re stuck with the looseleaf in the end.

yeah i’m not getting a single thing from the bookstore i have heard so many times that they just rip you off. i’m renting my calc and bio texts from chegg, and got the chem text cheap as an ebook. i’m buying the the chem wkbk the cheapest i can for a decent copy, but not from the bookstore. i just need to get an aris card for chem too after i find out if my teacher actually uses it

yeah the bookstore is a total rip off. why my parents still insist on buying from them i just cannot understand lol. i guess to them it’s just easier but you’d think after seeing how much money they could save they would change their minds! i ended up keeping half of my books because the store offered me hardly anything for them compared to what we paid. and yeah, i would wait until you hear directly from your chem prof about the aris card to get it. i’m not sure if you could return those things.

alright. thanks for all the help you and glacius have been answering all my questions for a while now. you guys taught me so much that i help answer other people’s questions on the fb group now :)

hazeleyez, where do you recommend buying or renting books? what is chegg and aris card? thanks

anywhere except the bookstore lol! i believe chegg is an online site where you can rent books from. i don’t have any experience renting books and to be quite honest i doubt i would ever do it, but that’s just me personally. i have friends who have gotten their books through amazon and they seem pretty satisfied. unfortunately, sometimes the bookstore is the easiest place to get books but it isn’t necessarily the best deal. sorry i can’t give you a better answer but i haven’t bought online yet.

ARIS is an online program that a lot of the chem classes will have assigned homework from. a student would need a card with a code on it to get an account (or pay directly to the site).

thanks, I’ll try amazon then.

also if you’re on facebook there is a group called TCNJ Book Exchange. I actually got my three textbooks from there since that was a better deal. Try looking there if buying from other sites like amazon, half, and abebooks don’t work out.

and a question about ATMs. where are they on campus and from which bank? i saw one in the student center last time i was there and i believe it was wachovia. are there any others?

yeah try hitting up current students for used books. i know i still have some of mine because the bookstore offered me little to no money for them

as far as I know those are the only ATMs on campus, and yes, they are Wachovia

yeah went to orientation today and my mom signed me us with wachovia so i guess i’m good now

i have a question…but i have it posted lol your answer will mean a lott

So I really want to get in for poly sci and here are my stats

GPAS Unweighted:
Freshmen Year: 2.4
Sophmore Year: 3.0
Junior Year: 4.0+ (2APs)
Senior Year: (6 APs)

Final GPA: 3.3 (87.43)

SATs: CR: 630 M:610 (1240/1600)
SAT IIs: U.S. History 750
AP Scores: U.S. History: 5; English Language and Comp.: 4
URM: African American
Region: Out of State

ECs
Senator of Grade Council (10-12)
President and Member of FBLA (9-12)
It’s Academic (11-12)
Physics Club (11-12)
Varsity Soccer (10-12)
GSA (11-12)
Olympic Development Soccer (11)
Club Soccer (9-12)
Internship at a Law Firm (11-12)

I think you have a pretty good shot as of now; if you maintain a 4.0 GPA while taking 6APs first semester senior year, I think you’re probably in. Overall GPA is a little low, but you’ve shown tremendous improvement. SAT scores are on the low side too, but it shouldn’t really matter too much. SAT II and AP scores are good bonuses. URM is a good bonus. ECs are great. Just nail your essay. gl

Thank you, my essay should be nice but I am worried about sending out my Senior year grades. My school does not do the semesters, they do quarters. Also, our grades are only released after the second quarter which would be in January. Do you think TCNJ would make me send in a mid-year report?

All schools require a mid-year report.
