Ask Martynpig: Orientation Dates Fall 2008

I'm planning to go on a vacation with my family right after graduation in June, and I don't want to miss the orientation sessions for freshmen in July/August. Can any current LA students tell me the past orientation dates for freshen? It would be great if a current freshman can tell me the dates for fall '07 so i can make estimates.

THANKS:)

?! Didn't they send you a brochure or something?

There's nothing in the acceptance packet that has information about orientation, and on the website they said that sign-ups will be available in early june, which is too late for me to buy plane tickets then. :(

why is it too late? there's always plane tickets ;)

This isn't ask you. It's more like you're asking. But orientation sessions start from early July to last August, with one going on every week.

I dont think you find out until later on. However, I believe mine was early July, session 101, can anyone confirm?

I remember that there were 11 sessions. Mine was 106, which was Aug 6-8.

101 is usually around july 10-12 (give or take depending on the calendar). you really should attend orientation, the last one is around august 30

martynpig, when are the orientation dates? :P

just buy your tickets now and pick an orientation that doesn't conflict when they are up? or be safe and don't leave until mid july, sign up for orientation early so you can get an early orientation then go vacation?

AHAHA sorry i messed up the title. I don't know what I was thinking. :P
Ask martynpig = martynpig ask? inverted syntax LOL

But thanks to the replies everyone! So how long does one orientation session last? Did you stay overnight?

Here you go, this year's (summer 2008) upcoming freshmen orientation dates:

101: July 7-9
102: July 14-16
103:July 20-22
104: July 23-25
105: July 29-31
106: August 4-6
107: August 10-12
108: August 13-15
109: August 19-21
110: August 24-26
111: August 27-29

Orientation session is 3 days, 2 nights, and yes, you stay over.

you also have the option to stay over the night before, which if you're from norcal or further is a VERY good idea.
you don't want to be dealing with early-morning travel hassles (flying in, finding the flyaway shuttle, walking up to the dorms by yourself) when you aren't yet familiar with the area.
give yourself the time to get settled in and not worry about being late and such.
oh and bringing a laptop is another good idea- will help expedite the class signup process. but bring a lock too xD

THANKS SOOOOO MUCH pppeachykeen! :D
and wow, orientation sounds really exciting. One last question: can we sign up for whatever session we want, or does it depend on your major? Coz I know Davis did that for last year, assigning ppl according to their majors.

You pick whichever one you want, first come, first serve. Earlier is generally better because classes won't fill up
