Can anyone provide insight regarding banking accounts for OOS students? PNC vs Credit Union or just using Miami accounts?

@c?llege - We did not get a local account. My son uses his Wells Fargo credit card for occasional local purchases. We put funds into his meal plan and swipe card accounts as needed. It’s virtually instantaneous One plus: Miami, dining dollars roll over to the next year.

Any recommendatio on meal plans? It appears that for incoming students they are still heavily skewed towards buffet meals. I am concerned that many of those swipes may go unused especially for lunch because of the inconvenience of the buffet locations and classrooms. Looking for best value for my son.

@c?llege thank you for posting- Also looking for advice- Daughter is a “snacker” -so far we selected the $1,900 thinking she may not use the 225 buffet.

@c?llege @futurePittMom The changes to the Miami meal plan make choosing an appropriate plan difficult - even for returning students. I don’t think most students will ever use the amount of buffet swipes included on any of the plans. If you decide to go with the lowest plan, keep in mind that you will most likely need to add to the declining balance. $100 won’t go far at the a la carte locations. You will have the opportunity to make changes to your meal plan before your fall bill. I would review plans again this summer. Consider joining the Miami University Parents and Family Members Facebook Page. Lots of good info there (sometimes too much:) But meal plans have been discussed along with many other helpful topics.

I’m trying to help my daughter figure out whether Miami is a good fit. She was admitted USAP law and public policy and is really wanting small class sizes. Does this exist? She wants an active, committed, fun student body. Her words - she wants to be with “smart kids who work hard and play hard”… Any info/advice?
