I wanted to see my chances at a direct admission to the Farmer Business school at Miami of Ohio! I have a 4.08 GPA and I have an ACT of 28 with a super score of 29 (I believe Miami superscores). I was an exchange student in Germany with Rotary my junior year so I speak German as well. I have participated in a lot of sports and now I’m the president of the Interact club at my school. I attended an economy camp in Germany as well as a church retreat. I work at a local restaurant as well. I just wondered about my chances of getting admitted directly to the business school (finance or Econ major)?
Thanks so much!!
Our daughter was a direct admit for Farmers and is a freshman this year. Her stats were ACT 33, GPA 4.5. Also speaks German. Captain of Ultimate Frisbee team, Drum Major, All State Band 2 years, various music awards. She was accepted under undeclared business major and will decide on what area as she gets deeper into the curriculum. She was also accepted into the Honors program. I think you have a good shot at getting in. Try to take the ACT again and get it a little higher. I believe they look at leadership (which you have) and drive which and obviously you are a go getter! She loves Miami and is really thriving there!
Thank you for the info! I was wondering if you could tell me any more about Miami? How is your daughters social life as well as classes or living situation? What does she enjoy most about the school and what does she enjoy least? Thanks!! @markone1
She is living in Emerson which is an honors dorm. She loves her floor and is quite friendly with everyone on her wing. She loves most of her professors and has found them to be approachable and genuinely interested in interacting with the students. There are a ton of clubs to join, and she works out at the rec center as much as her schedule allows. She goes to football games and hockey games when she can. There is plenty of partying going on uptown on the weekend (and during the week for those students more interested in that) but honestly, our son is at a big state university and there is no lack of that there either. Uptown has lots of smaller restaurants for a bite out with friends. But honestly, she says the food at Miami is awesome. Lots of choices right on campus to grab a bite to eat. Is Miami preppy? She says yes, but does not consider herself preppy and has made a lot of friends. She is also an out of state student and found everyone pretty welcoming. She also comments on how absolutely beautiful the campus is, and I have to agree. I think she would say what she likes the least about Miami is lack of shopping (not close to a mall) and she really wishes they had a movie theater in town. Another tip on Farmer, the summer before her senior year we went on a tour of just Farmer School of Business (we had already done the campus tour on another visit). She went around with a small group and got to interact with one of the business school professors and learn about the program. Not saying that helped her get in, but I am sure it did not hurt. It is a huge advantage if you can get directly admitted as a freshman, the transfer requirements if you try to get in as a sophomore or later are very competitive, just puts a lot of added pressure on you. She is very happy that she made the choice to attend Miami University. Hope that helps!
Did you apply early action or regular admission?
I applied early action. I didn’t get direct admit but got it with $4k
