What sort of bad things did you hear? I know two transfer students that lived in Plex (Foster-Walker) last year and they really enjoyed it a lot.

Two questions:

Is there any way to find out for certain what courses will be offered in the winter/spring? (Rather than just looking at the CTEC which states when they've been offered in the past)

Generally, do students get assigned to housing with students that are the same year as them? -- I am a sophomore; will I live with a freshman?

I'm pretty sure you're not going to be rooming with a freshman, although we might be in your dorm, depending on which one you chose :D

This website at the registrar has a class listing for the year.

Yearly Course Planner for 2008-2009

Its not always complete (some departments are better participants than others), and the times may also shift as the year progresses and the spring profs. are rearranged. Overall, it is a helpful start though.

can people tell me their stereotypes of ISRC and Bobb? please just lay it all out there! the more uncensored and candid, the better! :)

And those two are complete opposites.

Tell me anything you know about Foster-Walker--stereotypes, quality of rooms, closeness of its inhabitants, etc. (I was assigned a single in Foster-Walker East.)

Thanks arbiter, but I checked that site already and was wondering if people in this forum can give me their personal opinions. I guess I have some hesitations on ISRC--I kinda feel that it is too quiet (thus boring?) and dare I say..nerdy? And it seems like Bobb is a place where it's easy to make close friends and always has some kind of social activity going on...

can anyone confirm my beliefs? or tell me otherwise?

I also got assigned to Foster Walker, here's what students had to say in 02-03, and I fear this holds up today: DTECs - Dorm Testimonials, Evaluations, & Concerns 2002-2003 Results, Associated Student Government, Northwestern University

What about the concerns about Sargent? Do those still hold as well?

How do the addresses go? Do you just add your room number at the end of the Street address of your dorm?

I would have packages addressed to:

Your Name
Willard Residential College Room XXX
1865 Sherman Ave.
Evanston, IL 60201

(or whatever)

I've always had it formatted:

<your name="">
CRC (East Fairchild)
1863 Sheridan Road
Rm <#>
Evanston, IL 60201</your>

Just to use a random sample.

(that might not be the right address, just for formatting)

Really? They always told us packages had to have the physical address of the building on it, and "CRC East Fairchild" wouldn't be enough. Also, Room # isn't a necessity, since they have that info in the Mailroom, but it is still helpful.

Edit: oh, you added the address in after :) well, nevermind.

hey dfleish,
so does every willard desk have desk lamp (in dorm rooms)? any mirrors in the room?

Yes, every desk has a built in overhead lamp. There are mirrors attached to the dressers but they are not full-length (you can get by without buying a full-length mirror if your own though, the bathrooms have them).

Oye madre! Do NOT put the name of the dorm when addressing packages--that will cause packages to take MUCH longer to deliver.

The fastest way to get your packages is to address it like you would an apartment: the street address, then the room # as an apartment number.

for example, if I lived in Willard 101, I would address my package as

Name
1865 Sherman Ave #101
Evanston, IL 60201

Adding in the name of the dorm (as well as adding in "Northwestern University") will cause your package to be rerouted to an additional sorting facility within Northwestern, which will inevitably delay the arrival of your package. Save yourself the time and the delay of your towels by addressing your packages properly!

For real? I even had "Willard" on my Netflix shipping labels and they arrived as quickly as they ever do at home.

You're mistaken- the official addressing policy tells you to put dorm name.
