Ask Questions about Kent School :)

And that scene at the end with her golden dress and that smile… it almost made me cry.

We will just say they have equal importance

Drove by Kent twice today while out in western CT for a hike. School is real quiet right now, and so is the town. Had trouble finding an open place to grab a bite after lunch/before dinner time. Town is quaint and very close to the school, scenic mountains all around, lots of nature activities in area. Seems like a bucolic setting to me. Good luck.

My son is applying to Kent and he was told that there was a robotics program that students can take instead of a Winter sport. But when visiting, we did not see much of this program. Will it be started in next year?

2nd Question - What is the best airport to fly into when coming from out of state? Albany? Hartford?

Kent is 1 hour 15 minutes from Bradley International

1 hour 30 minutes from LaGuardia

(Most BS kids I know fly in and out of these two airports- Newark and JFK, too.)

Everything else being equal, Hartford would be my choice. For snowy conditions, though, the roads are not great between Bradley and Kent, in my opinion. Narrow, hilly, and twisty. Roads are moderately better coming in from the south (i.e. NYC airports).

However, getting north out of the NYC airports is never fun - the trip west from Bradley is much simpler and in good weather it would be a much nicer drive.

Albany generally has fewer direct connections, is more expensive, and offers no benefits in terms of travel to the school once you land.

Yeah there is a pre-engineering building but its in town thats why you didn’t see. I believe if you do robotics for a certain amount of terms you can get a pre-e certificate. The building is pretty close like a 5 minute walk its newly made too they built it last year. The bottom floor is pre-e and the top is the new dance studio where I go  @heartburner

There are travel plans you have to fill out before breaks and the airports are JFK, and LaGuardia there are also buses to grand central station and other places but I dont really know them becuase my parents pick me up. But a lot of my friends take connecting flights like from JFK they go to Maryland and then they switch. @heartburner

Thank you bookluver07 . how about drugs. various people have mentioned a prevalence of drugs at Kent. any thoughts?

Laguardia has the most flights and about the same driving distance as Hartford. Most kids fly in/out of Laguardia. DrD is at Kent now and she has seen no signs of drugs or alcohol. A few kids have been put on probation for possession of cigs, female/male visitation, caught outside dorm after hours, and quite a few for cheating.

JerseyGirl999 - my DD is at Kent now and she says Wifi is slow in top floor of North, probably because so many people do watch Netflix and it slows down the whole network. Great school!

I’m applying as a junior to Kent 2015 and I was wondering roughly how many kids join for grade 12, (I’ve been warned it’s difficult!) and do they settle in easily??

@londoner15 There are like 120 juniors. Only a few people came in junior/senior and most ppl get recruited for hockey/football/lacrosse

Hey there  As you know I’m applying for 3rd form next year and as decision day draws closer more questions have arisen! First question, is the work load a pain and how much free time does the work allow? Second, what was the revisit day like? Last question, how’s the food. As I stalk the website, the food seems very appealing. xD Thank you, and have fun returning from Winter Weekend  xD

@southctkid Work is a lot but if u manage time and finish you’ll be fine…I have like 2 hours of free time every day and that’s actually a lot. Revisit day isn’t as scary as you think there are other kids just like you and everyone’s really nice. Food is…edible it’s decent sometimes good. Everyone usually orders out during weekends

@JerseyGirl999 At least the food isn’t inedible. I’ll be eagerly waiting until the tenth, the ninth maybe, idk xD. Hope to see you soon

@JerseyGirl999 Stumbled on this thread and saw that you have been involved with dance at Kent. My daughter will be applying this fall and definitely wants to continue dance at Kent - she’s ballet/modern/hip hop. Can you tell me a bit about the dance program? Is it daily? Do you take a term at a time? What sort(s) of dance did you do? We were there this summer but did not go see the dance studio in town. Hoping you can answer some questions!! Thanks
