Ask Questions about SCU Here!

I applied Early Action and I was wondering when I might expect to receive an admissions decision. Thanks.

@kgwaterski - no worries, SCU isn’t a giant school - the admissions is on it, that will in no way affect your merit scholarship. They are not looking for reasons to not give you money  They are interested in things working for their applicants. Financial aid doesn’t come till later cause of federal forms not opening till Jan 1, etc. Merit will come a week to 10 days after your acceptance. Acceptances were posted online on December 15th last year, but we had received packet and seen it online prior to that. I would start watching from around the 11th, but don’t count on anything to the next week so you don’t go crazy!

@CADREAMIN Are you saying we should look out for snail mail before online notification? Should we stalk the mail carrier?

Hi @msdarcy,

I just talked to one of the admissions counselors and she said the decision will be posted online on ecampus before it comes in the mail, so look out for that starting around December 15th, it may be a few days before or after that.

No need to stalk the mail carrier!

What are the average stats (GPA SAT) for
-Civil Engineering
-Environmental Studies
-Environmental Sciences
-Marketing
-Management

I really want to go here but I don’t think I have the stats to get in.

sorry if this is too difficult to answer

Ya getting it online and faster is great, although it does take the fun out of the surprise in the mailbox - but most anxious people would rather have it sooner than later regardless how it comes I suppose. Student got packages ahead of the online posting from a couple schools which was pretty sweet, but they were ones that really wanted her and she also got a note or email from the admissions director with them, so that was a nice touch. I was surprised at how much variety there is to admissions, but she applied to a zillion schools so we saw it all I think. It’s great you have a date to work with now which seems to be same as last year.

I like when schools have the student at least see something like a big gold banner (UCLA) or a welcome video (Cal Poly does a great job at this) versus pulling up a page and seeing “status: admitted” in size 12 font among other jarble. I like a little pomp and circumstance. Good luck all!

Something is going on with the portal. Logged in this morning, but the screen that normally shows the little section with the student name, application number, etc. is gone! It’s now a blank page! :-/

Could this mean results are happening very soon?!! ;

Mine works, idk EA/ED supposed to be on the 15th~

My DD’s portal is a blank page too.

Hi @liiiiiiiiiiiiiil,

I tried looking up the average GPA and SAT scores for those majors, but I wasn’t able to find them unfortunately. You could try calling the Undergrad Admission office, or the offices of those individual majors and they would be able to help you more!

okay. Thanks anyway!

Hi! I was accepted EA this week and was notified of a incentive grant scholarship last night, but I was wondering if I could still receive more possibly the Johnson. Do Johnson candidates find out with their original financial aid award or will I find out in mid February?

Virtually any question about awards and timing has been addressed in other two current threads at least once.

Hi @mkylmscjm,

Here is the Official Selection Process for the Johnson Scholars award:

Semi-finalists will be notified by mid-February, and asked to submit an essay by February 25. After essays are reviewed, finalists will be invited to a Scholarship Weekend in early April. Travel and lodging expenses for finalists will be paid by the University. The weekend includes attending classes, touring the campus, meeting with faculty mentors, dining with members of the Johnson Scholars community, selection activities and additional events. A program for parents, who may attend at their own expense, will intersect and complement the student program.

Scholarship Awards

From among the finalists, 10 Johnson Scholars for the academic year will be selected and notified in the weeks following Scholarship Weekend. All other finalists will receive a prestigious merit-based scholarship award such as a Presidential, Provost, or Dean’s scholarship.

So if you’ve already received a Presidential, Provost, or Dean scholarship, it means you are no longer eligible for the Johnson Scholars award. However these scholarships are still extremely prestigious, and it’s great honor to receive any additional awards!

@vschuSCU
I think the last paragraph is the information everyone was looking for! To expand that for some folks
if if they were just accepted ED/EA, but they did not get any merit award, are they also out of the running for Johnson Scholarship? Are the Feb notifications for the Johnson process just for RD students?

I don’t think it’s true that receiving a merit scholarship means you are no longer being considered for Johnson. I spoke with admissions counselor who told me the opposite: most Johnson scholar semi-finalists will have typically receive a Dean’s, Provost, or Presidential notice with their decision. He said something about the Johnson process being separate, and that if semi-finalists do not move on to finalists, their award reverts back to the original award they received with their letter.

I believe what @vschuSCU was saying is that if you received a Deans, Provost or Presidential with NO mention of being considered for Johnson’s at acceptance with that original scholarship, then your package is complete and you are not in the running for Johnson’s. You would have been informed of being eligible for Johnson’s at time of getting original scholarship and acceptance.

They certainly come from those that already received awards, that is how it was for my student last year. Wouldn’t make sense that you get no scholarship then two months later after you have mentally moved on that you get offered chance for Johnson’s, way too late for many.

The counselor told me that no student has been notified of anything having to do with Johnson yet, so again, I’m not sure that’s true. Unless the counselor was mistaken.

No one gets the scholarship till spring. But notification that you are in the running for Johnson came in December with the other merit award. People have posted on here that they are Johnson nominees so it seems it is the same as last year.

I didn’t see anyone posting that they are semifinalists for Johnson yet.
