Asking your Reach school why they accepted you?

I know it is silly but I am curious what made my reach school decide to accept me. I really thought I had no shot with my pitiful SAT score that didn't even meet the middle 50%. Was it my essays? Was it my reccomendations?

How weird would it be to ask and see if they'd tell me? Has anyone else asked a school why they accepted them?

I was literally about to ask that. Has anyone done it?

You mean, as opposed to asking your reach school why you were denied??

Idk, I would want to know though. I always assumed they tossed a coin about 3 times for each qualified applicant.

It’s a whole bunch of factors. Of course, it’s not just your reach school to ask, but why do you care? It’s over. Next challenge: making sure UNC is a good fit. Congratulations!

Take every favorable result with humility, trust and kindness. Move on. Your curiosity would not achieve anything of value.

It’s confidential. They won’t tell you the truth. They’d just dodge your question with answers like “we liked your character” or some B.S.

^That’s not necessarily true. I’ve known schools to tell people why they were rejected; why not why they were accepted?

Still, it’s kind of a strange question.

First of all, congrats on getting into your reach school, that’s just wonderful!
But whoa, I wouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth. I think you should just be immensely grateful for the opportunity they are offering you instead of trying to question their judgment.

Well said Demiitasse, I’m sure the city of Troy had similar sentiments.

Oh, I’m not judging their decision I know that I am a good fit for the school and that I will do well acedemically, I just am curious how they came to that conclusion. I probably won’t ask but it is an interesting question to ponder.
