i was reading this at assist.org
" NOTE: Students must complete POL SCI 1 and POL SCI 2 in order to declare the major. Students who receive a 4 or 5 on the American Government Advanced Placement Exam may substitute an upper division American Politics course at Berkeley in lieu of POL SCI 1, before or after declaring the major. This course may not also be used to satisfy an upper division political science requirement. AP credit can not be used to satisfy any other major requirements."

Does this mean that i NEED to finish poli 1 and poli 2 BEFORE i apply? (so i need to finish poli 2 during the fall quarter?). i was planning on taking poli sci 2 during the winter quarter but can someone explain what this means? does it mean i need to take poli 1 & 2 before summer of 08?

I don't think you need to finish those classes once you're admitted. You would probably be admitted into the Pre-major. But I'd say if your school has those classes, take it before you go into Berkeley.

As for whether you should take it before you apply, I would because it would inprove my chances of getting in, shows that you really want to get into the school and that you are well prepared for it. As for it being required before you even apply? I am not sure about that.
But then I am not and admissions or transfer counselour so what I say would probably not be accurate, just finish up as much classes as you can, afterall, it is Berkeley, and admission into the Polisci major is competitive.
Best to ask a Berkeley transfer counselour.

Like Yams said, you don't have to, but it is extremely recommended that you do finish both courses (part of your major-prep courses) on the Spring term prior to transfer (UC policy).

It would be pointless for Universities to accept transfers who have not completed all their preparatory coursework, because the whole point of transferring is to finish your upper division work. So finish anything that major-prep says, and you will have a good shot.

for berk, 4 outta 5 of my pre-reqs will be done come app time (poli 1, 3 history classes) it's just poli 2 i wanted to wait until winter since i hear the one that teachers in the fall is really really really hard.
