Hello,

I was recently admitted to U.C. Berkeley; however, I still need to complete some prerequisites for Political Science. Would I be unable to be declared as a Political Science major if I do not complete those courses? Is there a time limit on when I should have them completed?

Thank you.

You can’t declare for your major until all prereqs are complete. Complete them your first semester at Cal or this summer. Ive got one left to knock out this summer myself.

If I need only a few more prerequisites for Political Science, which classes would I take during my first semester at Cal during the fall assuming I only take a few units of Political Science courses to complete those prerequisites?

That is something that you should (and will) discuss with a counselor at CalSo, assuming you plan to attend.

@ External: Congratulations on being admitted to Berkeley! See ya there, my friend.

As for your question, take a couple over summer if you can. Then take the remainder of your lower-division prerequisites in the fall. If you can’t do summer, you’ll probably have to take the remainder of your lower division prerequisites in the fall.

Some majors require all prereqs to be done before the summer so you should check for Poly Sci.

For Political Science majors who plan to enroll at U.C. Berkeley:

“Note: UCB students are free to take lower-div courses elsewhere during the summer, but should have the courses approved by a major advisor or an L&S advisor (depending on the requirement you wish to fulfill) in advance. To take courses elsewhere during the academic year, students must officially withdraw from UCB for that semester. Students may not take courses at another school and UCB at the same time unless they receive special permission from L&S.”
