Are there any benefits from receiving an associates degree for transfer admission?

i just want to bump this questions up...because i'm wondering the same thing. to get an associates @ my school you have to take a couple of stupid computer courses and i think there is a phys. ed. requirement....i would rather take an extra math or science or literature course than pay the money to take those...is not getting my associates going to make a difference when i apply?

it depends

some state universities prefer applicants with an Associates degree though it seems borderline applicants gain the most benefit from receiving the degree.

At some schools, the AA degree will not transfer as a whole. Instead, individual transferable classes will be picked out of the transcript so you may end up wasting time and energy taking useless and senseless classes at your local CC.

My advice? Don't shy away from hard classes - research the schools you are interested - try to complete all the prereqs as an incoming junior transfer) - and if you can, take a high class load (15+ credits).
