Hello! I will be graduating after this summer semester with my Associate of Science from Weber State University. My intended major is Graphic Design. Ideally, I would like to transfer my entire AS to a better 4-yr school specifically to receive a BFA. I am a Utah resident but looking mostly at schools out of state.

As I understand it, most public universities generally only offer BA/BS (like WSU and most state schools I'm familiar with in UT), which tends to be moreso focused on fine arts and general studies rather than design and career prep. To avoid this you would initially think the solution is a private design school, right? Me too.

The issue is that most private schools will receive me as a transfer student on a course-by-course basis, meaning they won't just accept my AS straight across the table. Even though I much prefer the idea of focused design study that I would receive as a BFA student at a private design school, at this point, it's not worth throwing away many of the credits I've already received because they likely won't transfer.

Other info: At this point in my education, most schools forego looking at any ACT/SAT scores as I've received so much education beyond high school (graduated HS '06). That said, I didn't even take the SAT and my ACT was a 23 (if I remember correctly). My AS GPA is 3.69. I am newly-ish married (no children! and no plans for them in the near future) and obviously not making that much money, which allows for us to both receive a good deal of FAFSA/scholarships on a need basis. I don't care about dorm life, party scene, etc. because I'm married and boring! (JK, our Friday nights consist of some hardcore Arrested Development marathons and takeout dinner, tell me that doesn't sound awesome? :)

Last and probably most important detail: At this point in life, I'm looking for an education that will genuinely enrich my life through skills acquisition and quality of overall experience (ding! ding! ding! private design school, I know! sigh...) I'm not too swayed by cost (although info about scholarships never hurts), worried about location, or enchanted by name brand schools. I just want to attend a school that will fit my study criteria mentioned.

I'm considering VCU as it is a top-rated public school for Graphic Design, as well as UCLA (DESMA) for the same reason (although I'm not entirely sure DESMA is a BFA, but it's reputation is enough to just consider).

What other public schools options are available to me as an AS transfer student wanting to put my entire AS towards a BFA? Are there any private design schools that will accept my entire AS?
