ASU Barrett WP Carey vs. IU Bloomington Kelley

Hi all, my daughter is a Standard Admit to Kelley for Fall 23. Am confused with the choices as she has MSU, PSU and ASU as options as well. She will be on her own as we are based in India. I was certain till some time back that she will be going to ASU as we have family there. But speaking to a few folks not so sure now. Kelley definitely has a better reputation and PSU seems like a good option too although she got in at Harrisburg. Am very confused. Can someone help please. BTW she is waitlisted at Mich - Ann Arbor too but that will keep us waiting till June end I guess. So confused  Thanks for your help!

Generally I lean to schools where the student has direct admit to their major. What are her career goals?

ASU Carey with Barrett honors college is excellent. She will have relatively small classes and many majors to choose from. That, along with family close by, is compelling.

For IU Kelley, your D would have to follow the standard admission process here: Standard Admission 2023 Criteria | Bachelor's Degree in Business | Indiana Kelley Has she watched the webinar on that page? How does she feel about her ability to gain admission to Kelley? What would be the plan if that doesn’t happen?

Here are the entrance criteria for PSU Smeal (where no majors are direct admit)…is that the campus admitted to? Same questions as for Kelley…how does she feel about her ability to gain admission to one of the Smeal majors? Plan if that doesn’t happen? https://ugstudents.smeal.psu.edu/academics-advising/get-into-a-smeal-major

Is MSU Michigan State? Does she have direct admit to Sloan?

Are there any cost constraints/considerations?

ETA: I just saw you made another thread. PSU Harrisburg doesn’t make sense at all compared to ASU Barrett/Carey.

PSU Harrisburg is a satellite campus to the main campus. Spend two years at Harrisburg and then another two at Main. It’s also not direct admit. This option doesn’t sound appealing.

ASU sounds like a great option. In my opinion it’s nice to have family nearby just-in-case she needs help. Good luck.

One more thing…your D does have to deposit at a school by the end of the day today. So…no waiting for Michigan. Michigan is unlikely to work out, so I would counsel her to get excited about the choice she does make today.

So having family somewhere and coming from India - that’s a huge positive that I think over trumps any sort of reputational bias.

Many from ASU will do just as well as Indiana.

A lot will depend on major. For example, ASU and Michigan State are amongst the tops in the country for supply chain/logistics. ASU is also strong in MIS.

Yes, IU is ranked higher but that alone is not reason to attend a school.

As your student will be thousands of miles from home, I think being near family is a huge boost - somewhere to go at break times and somewhere to go when homesick.

So it’s a fine choice.

Best of luck.

ASU Barrett+Carey is MUCH better than the other options. I hope you put your deposit at ASU. :crossed_fingers:
