ASU Class of 2022 - Barrett Admission Decisions

Hey guys! I just noticed that we don’t have a thread for the high school class of 2018 ASU Barrett applicants. Feel free to post your stats and when you applied so we can get a feel for what is preferred for acceptance to Barrett! Spread the word around of this thread, and keep us updated on your application status as we progress through the application pools

I applied last night, 10/31. 32 ACT, 3.83 uw gpa. Good amount of ECs/leadership/volunteering.

Good luck to everyone!

Here are my stats:

Applied to ASU in August, admitted in Sept. to Marketing major at WPC
Arizona Resident
Core GPA: 3.27
UW GPA: 3.342
W GPA: 4.0
SAT: 1310 twice, 1300 once (retaking again in December, I know it’ll be too late for Barrett consideration but I want to try to get to Provost’s scholarship)
ACT: 26 once, 27 once
Not a National Merit Scholar or Hispanic Scholar
Awarded the New American University Dean’s scholarship valued at $6,000/year (I was estimated to get the Provost’s at $8,000/year)
Applied to Barrett on Nov. 1 for early action 1 deadline, decisions are sent Dec. 15 @ 5pm
Essay was above average but not amazing, reviewed and revised by my AP lit teacher, as well as my marketing teacher who taught AP Lang and AP Lit in the past

Excellent ECs and work experience:
3 years in DECA, 2 years as a chapter officer, 1 as CFO, this year as President, and 3 years in the corresponding marketing class (instructor/DECA advisor writes strong recommendations, also a graduate of Barrett), also won 2nd place at state competition and was in the top 25% at international competition, we do strong community service/outreach events with our chapter and are supported by city council
2 years in Link Crew (transition program where upper classmen serve as peer mentors all year long to a group of about 10 freshmen)
Joined Junior State of America this year (started on campus last year)

2 10-week paid internships with my city hall in the finance department, my previous supervisor there is a recommender and we keep regular contact since we have a good relationship
Currently work at Fry’s Food Stores (Kroger in Arizona) as a courtesy clerk, often put in charge of the other clerks in terms of managing a schedule and everyone’s breaks, averaging 12 hours a week

Feel free to comment! I do recognize I’m not the strongest applicant due to my GPA :frowning:

As of today my My ASU portal shows my application has been moved to review. Maybe I’ll get a decision before December 15??

My DS applied. 3.38 UW/4.00W (about the same as yours Harry0706), 1400 SAT/31 ACT. 6 AP courses, 7 AP exams. Excellent EC’s including a couple of very unique EC’s that I feel uncomfortable sharing without his permission. His essay was decent. He’s worried about his GPA being the sticking point. Although he has applied to other schools EA, Barrett is his first choice so he hopes to be done and decided in December.

My son applied 10/31 and his application has been moved to review. His stats are:
4.6 weighted GPA
3.9 unweighted GPA
1320 SAT
30ACT
6/477 class rank
7AP classes
He doesn’t have a ton of EC’s but had a good essay and letters of recommendations. He has been admitted to ASU and received the President’s scholarship which is $10,000 a year for the next four years. Can’t wait to hear.

My app was finished 10/30, and I’m in review right now.
2.88 weighted GPA (external factors brought that down last year)
1340 SAT / 34 ACT
5 APs including this year
14,500 (Provost) scholarship
Rec letters were from previous directors (Letter A was the director that has known me since about the age of 11 and has seen me grow and mature, Letter B is from my high school director from 10th to present.)

I have a few quirks as well as a strong essay that should aid me in getting in. By graduation I’ll have done 20 hours in a hospital setting shadowing medical professionals, have been on the technical crew for 2 years (assistant/stage manager & sound board operator) and in competitive (UIL One Act Play) theater for 3. I have 100+ hours at a local museum in a lab setting & am a Davidson Young Scholar.

My D got her acceptance to Barrett today.

NMSF, probable NMF
4.0 UW, 11 APs
ACT 34

D really likes Barrett, but after visiting in October, she decided she would have a hard time with the desert heat. She probably will not attend.

@ShrimpBurrito , how did she receive her notification? Congrats!

She got an email telling her to check her portal.

@ShrimpBurrito Congrats to your D. My S checked even though he didn’t get an email and it’s still showing awaiting decision. Hopefully, soon! Maybe they are notifying the NMSF first…

FWIW, the Barrett website says their goal is to have decisions out to NMSFs 2-3 weeks after their application is complete, but it took ~4 weeks in D’s case. Makes me wonder if they are swamped with applications.

Yea S18 is NMSF as well. But he only applied about 2 weeks ago I think.

Yeah, NMSF is 98% of the time yes automatically, they offer admission to those first before deciding any others. 2 weeks till everyone in EA1 pool gets decision, I’m still in review, congrats to everyone who’s been admitted!

@ShrimpBurrito Congrats to your D. Did she get any scholarships from Berrett?

@Green1995 Officially I think she’s been offered the President’s Scholarship (15.5K/year), but since she’s NMSF, if she’s named NMF and lists ASU as her first choice, it will be a full tuition scholarship. D seems very relaxed and happy that she has this acceptance in the bag. They’ve got a good thing going at Barrett.

Congrats! My D applied 10/29 and is a nmsf but has not heard back yet.

My son was admitted to Computer Engineering and Barrett a few weeks ago.

His stats:
SAT 1: Math 790, Reading writing 780
SAT II: Math II: 770, Physics: 760
NMSF
AP Scholar with Distrinction
UW GPA 3.99
Rank 13/781
Public high school
Caucasian middle class

Extracurriculars: few club leaderships and minimum wage job. Nothing special.

Curious about everyone’s references to portal status (“moved to review,” “awaiting decision,” etc.) cause my son’s status has remained the same for several weeks… both before the Barrett submittal and after. Mind you, he did receive a confirmation email from the Barrett Admissions Director, saying his application is part of the Early Action I pool so I suppose everything is fine and we’ll find out on the 15th.

But his portal status says this:
“Congratulations: You have been admitted to the Business Exploratory program. Once you pay your enrollment deposit (if applicable) and submit an official final transcript, we will verify your self-reported course work. Your admission decision is conditional based upon the accuracy of your self-reported course work.”

Just nothing about Barrett that I’ve noticed.

S18 admitted to Barrett yesterday. OOS. 35 ACT, 3.9/4.0, NMSF.
