As a future transfer student in a year or so, I am having a current dilemma. My future career goal is to get involved in the marketing or advertising side of business, but I’m confused as to which college will provide a better pathway. As a California community college student I am doing very well in my courses and I am on track to complete the IGETC (including 60 units). I’m working hard maintain my 4.0 GPA (might end up dropping slightly later) and applying to universities such as UCSB, UCSD, & UCD. Of course I applied to UCLA & UCB, but I’m not getting my hopes up due to the competition. For all these universities I am going for a communications major because I feel as if that relates well to my career path. The problem is that over the summer I visited ASU and was impressed by their business school. I did more research on WP Carey School of Business and found out they have many network connections. I am now going to be stuck between the decision of attending a UC with a communications major or being a WP Carey Business student. I understand that UCs carry prestige in their name, but I question if they have the vital network opportunities for business that ASU provides. I have no problem with paying OOS tuition to attend ASU as well. I’m really in a rut right now and if any of you will offer advice to me I would be more than grateful. Sorry for making this discussion so long and thank you for your time.
My advice is apply to all the schools and wait to see where you are accepted first then make your decision.
I think they are all good choices and will all lead to good career options. Out of the UC’s on your list, UCB is the only one with a business major - maybe apply to UCB Haas and the other UC’s for Communication. That is provided you meet the bus school prereqs.
