Can we include an extra essay? There is no room on the online part II for an extra essay, but I was thinking of giving it to my GC to include with my transcript? Or would this just annoy the admissions people? I inlcuded it for my other schools so i figured it would only make sense to use if for Gtown as well....

uhhh I think this is a bad idea, give them what they ask for. Colleges view alot of applications another essay would just be annoying if I was working in admissions. you could write a book on why you should go to the school, but without the stats or anything spectacular you will not be admitted, another essays not going to help that much anyways.

this isnt another why georgetown essay. this talks about something unique about my family. still a bad idea?

I’m pretty sure most schools discourage submitting extra information, because they feel that they gain all the knowledge necessary from the questions asked in the application.

Yeah, the admissions officers tell you don’t add an essay, because they don’t want you to add an essay. If you can’t sell yourself in two essays and an interview, there’s probably not much another essay will do for you…

^^^ lol good point

its a short essay only like 500 words im sending here and to columbia.

No one will read it. I have a friend who worked in the room where they file applications. Materials other than those requested are discarded at that stage, long before they ever see an admissions officer.

Personally, I would contact (PHONE) the admissions office and see what you can do. Talk to them and be specific about what your essay is about and how it relates to your application as a whole.

In my opinion, unless it’s an essay about an extenuating circumstances, I wouldn’t send it. They don’t want your family history. They want to know only if you had problems that affected your grades or your performance at school. If it’s just an extra essay that strengthens a point already made, forget it and don’t waste their time.

However, potatoes, I’m not exactly sure how correct is your information. The admissions officer in charge of my state told me in person that I could send in additional information. It was an evaluation from a summer program (a pre-college course) and she said it would be fantastic to send it seeing it would show my performance in a college setting class.

So not all supplementary information are considered with “disdain.” It just has to pertain to the application as a whole; so your best bet is to ask the admissions officer yourself. By phone!
