You shouldn't put it, b/c it is something that anyone can do, it doesn't make you unique, if you want that to be a part of your representation try to include it in an essay somewhere, w/o explicitly saying "I read the newspaper as a hobby"

ok...lets assume i take off newspapers, newsmagazines, watching documentaries....can i keep "reading about the US presidents" and "exploring 19th century photography"? Thats unique.

And its just not true! Kathy Cohen in her book shows a resume with hobbies such as Drawing, Painting, etc. They dont get penalized. They get in! So i dont understand your viewpoint.

Is Katherine Cohen the one that sets up those admissions camps? If so, she's a crazy person and I would take her advice with a grain of salt. A lot of what she says seems very off.

Kathy has gotten many ppl into Ivy skools...shes a certified Ivy college admissions counselor. She has her own company called IvyWise.

A lot of her advice that you posted in this thread seems fishy. No adcom will ever read a 2.5 page resume.

well..they'd read it, they have to...they read everything you send them supposedly. But it would sure put me in a bad mood to read a 5 page essay or a 3 page resume.

why has this thread become such a friggin debate. Advice was asked for, advice was given...no offense, but it can be taken or left. Every post doesn't have to be debated.

Well, its the old CC tradition!

devil may cry is a pseudo-intellectual, and by the way.. i have like three kids in my fraternity that turned down duke for cornell, cornell holds better reputation and its an indisputable fact..except US NEWS which you stand behind for everything, check out the London rankings, the world rankings, see who is ranked higher buddy

AAAAAH no....lets just drop the D vs. C thing...it always gets out of hand. soooo moving on what else do you want in your resume BK lol

lol...umm where did the Duke comment come from? I dont follow US NEWS, if thats what u are telling me specifically. I follow the World University Rankings thank you very much.

Well, another Cornellian said that my resume is fine...the length is fine, hobbies r fine, etc.

I won't mind reading it if you pm me--3 pages seem like a lot, but it might be reasonable though

Most of the cornell-bound at my school had 1 page resumes
