Attaching another essay onto the "Additional Info" Section

... of the Common App.

It's circa 500 words and I think it's on par with my common app essay as far as writing skill, but both display a different aspect of me.

I was advised to do this by a friend and an essay reader, but I am somewhat apprehensive. Is this a bad idea?

i would say thats a no-no, but thats just my guess. its just a place to list more awards, recognitions, etc

^^Really? Where does it say that?

My S has taken the other approach. He put in this section an essay regarding his summer research internship (for those colleges that didn’t offer better opportunities elsewhere in their supplemental essays.)

Also, we keep speaking essays. Here’s something else he did to stand out. On the Common App section that asks for more info on one EC, he wrote a POEM. No essay. This from a guy who has much of the rest of his app and LORs pointing to math/science.

Think it will make him stand out from the herd of other math/sci folks? We think so.

I don’t think you should send in another essay. Universities go through a lot of applications, and thus have to read a lot of essays. i doubt sending another essay will help your chances in any way and i don’t think they will want to read a third essay.

the point of the ‘additional information’ section is to allow space for you to give any additional EC’s you have or any other minor information you might feel compelled to give.

Hm. I suppose you are right – I just wish there was a way to work in both!
