Attending a communinty college for 2 years and then transfer, whats the negatives?

Hey! Im currently attending high school and got 2 years until graduation, i got a GPA of 3.5 and i got a score of 1990 on the SAT test.

My dream is to attend college 4 years in the USA and after that get a job in the country so that i can stay. But i as many others have some financial issues. I can loan up to 800000sek which is about 93k usd and i have around 20k usd saved as of right now. With some help of working on campus and maybe getting 1 or 2 merit based scholarships Im counting on being able to afford a school like SDSU, ASU, CSULB, University of Iowa etc for 4 years. Right now the USD is really strong compared to the SEK, like 2 years ago it was down to 6,5sek but right now its up to 8.58 so thats a pretty big increase, if the USD were to go down again i could be able to afford much more fancier colleges but i dont really see that happening. I found out that some international students pay in state tuition after 1 year in college, how is this possible?

And the question about attending a CC, do you get bullied for attending one? What i mean by that is if like UCSB think that the SBCC students are losers and such things. Are there merit based scholarships on a CC? The chance of getting a internship while attending a CC is 0 right? Can you transfer from a CC to colleges in other states, for example transfer from SBCC to ASU?

There are no scholarships for international students at community colleges. If you attend one, you will need to pay the full cost of your studies. When you transfer, it will be almost impossible for you to get any kind of scholarship, so you would need to plan to pay the full cost of the new university as well.

Yes you can transfer from a community college in one state to a university in another.

Anyone who thinks a CC student is a “loser” is an idiot. Don’t talk to people like that.

If you keep your GPA at 3.5 or higher, and can get your SAT score above 2000 (or an ACT score of at least 30), you will have some affordable options even as an international applicant. Read through the links in this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/1678964-links-to-popular-threads-on-scholarships-and-lower-cost-colleges.html#latest Some of those scholarships are open to international students.

Do not plan to borrow USD 93k in the hope of finding a permanent job here after graduation. That is too much to borrow for an undergraduate degree even if you were a US student. Also, there is no guarantee that you would be able to stay here for one minute past the end of your OPT. You need to plan to return to your home country, or to be able to get a job in another country outside the US. Also, when you go for the interview for your student visa, if the visa officer thinks that you plan to stay here, you won’t get a student visa. You have to make it very clear that you plan to return home after completing your studies and any OPT. http://www.ice.gov/sevis/practical-training

The only ways that I know for international students to get in-state rates are if they graduated from high school in that state (this is possible in some states) or if they get a scholarship that covers the difference between OOS and in-state costs.
