Attitudes towards jewish students

I'm considering Wake Forest and wondering about how I'll fit in as a student from the northeast who is not christian.

I think that Wake is making a concerted effort to attract a more diversified pool of applicants. My son will be attending Wake this fall and we are Jewish New Yorkers now living in Maryland. Don’t know if there is a good bagel place, but the people at Wake are incredibly nice. I also believe that since there is a Hillel on campus, there is a welcoming attitude.
Good luck, but go visit if you can and see for yourself!

Our family is reform Jewish living in suburban Maryland. When we started looking at colleges for our son, I refused to consider Wake Forest, believing it to be too Christian and conservative. Well, I was wrong. I had several conversations with Jewish professors and members of Hillel. The overall picture I got was that someone who is very observant might not fit in at Wake, but for someone who is not very observant, but just wants to feel comfortable, it is fine. We have visited twice and my son was accepted last week. One suggestion I have is to contact the Wake Forest Hillel and set up a meeting with a representative the next time you are on campus. We did that and it helped quite a bit. My son is now deciding between William & Mary and Wake Forest and is leaning towards Wake. So, it’s been a strange journey, but a good one in the end.

Rockville Mom,
Did you write that, or did I? My son is graduating WJ and will be attending Wake. We also live in Rockville and are not very observant. I agree with your assessment, and hope that your son chooses Wake! My son was looking for a school that is very strong academically, has tremendous school spirit and yet is not a huge university. When he visited Wake he knew it was the right fit.
