I am currently a high school senior looking to apply RD to American university, and am hoping to get into their honors program. I have a 3.76/4.4 GPA, a 34 superscore on the ACT, and a 1410 SAT. While my academics might seem smooth, I have picked up a few B’s here and there. I’ve been involved in several governmental/leadership extracurriculars including being the founder of my school’s democratic club, interning for my congressman in office and campaigns, and being a president of my school’s JSA chapter. Based on these numbers, what is the likelihood that I would be able to get into the AU honors program? Should I consider applying EDII to boost my chances?
There are only 25 spots in the AU Honors program, 5 of which are the FDDS full rides, so I don’t think anyone can really chance you. You have excellent stats and ec’s, but I suspect that like in the Ivy application process most candidates share similar profiles and there is something that they are looking for to set you apart. I would focus on your essays for the program. The last essay question asks whether you would be interested in AU scholars or community-based research scholars because it is so competitive and many applicants end up in one these programs. ED2 boosts your admission chances for sure, but I have no idea if they take that into account for the Honors Program.
