How difficult is it to get into American University’s Honors Program? Is it comparable to other, more prestigious schools like Georgetown?
My SAT score is 1460, my weighted GPA is a 4.6 (unweighted is 4.0), and I have a good amount of extracurriculars (NHS, freshman mentoring, 4 years running xc, German exchange, and a lot of volunteer hours). I also have taken (or am currently taking) multiple AP classes.
Just wondering how good my chances are to get in? Thanks!
Of course though, for DC, the simply fact is nothing comes close to Georgetown so if you can get in and afford to go, take it. AU honors is good I’m sure, but if you want to work in DC and you get into Georgetown, you go.
Have you already been accepted to AU? Your stats are excellent, but if you did not do ED and are applying RD, I hope you have shown a lot of interest (visited campus, gone to regional info sessions, etc…) With an excellent profile like yours, you should be be very competitive for the honors program, however, if you are not already accepted and haven’t demonstrated a lot of interest in AU you run the risk of looking like you are using AU as a safety school. They don’t like that and reject a lot of high stats kids who they suspect that AU is not their top choice.
Thank you so much for your help! I should have mentioned this above, but I am only a junior:) I am going to visit the colleges in the DC area in Febrauary, so I am trying to figure out which schools I need to see. I will keep in mind that applying Early Action is the best option if I decide American University is where I want to go! Thanks again!
