@imobamaself congrats! did it say that on your email or how did you find out?
I got accepted but I’m a little confused because it says I’m spending my fall semester in a mentorship program of some sort. The letter said 150 other people are in the same program so not too many. They have me living in the dorms and taking classes (unless I choose the study abroad option) but I’m not technically enrolled until spring semester does anyone know what that is?
@mnazz123 They emailed me! My friends were telling me the decsiions were out but I checked the portal they gave us at the start of apps for submitting your materials and it just said my application was being processed. But then I checked my email and they sent me my decision letter. Good luck to you hope you get in too!!
@shutdown506 Oh wow thanks! That’s what I’m looking for as well this summer, I always thought it was going to be hard since I’m not an American citizen but I think any one can apply through each congressman/senator’s website right
@yikesssssss Spring admissions programs are when colleges accept students that start their first semester of college after winter break is over. Sometimes, applicants can specifically apply to begin school in the spring semester — like at Purdue. Other times, the institution will decide who to put in the spring class from their regular applicant pool — like at UC Berkeley.
Typically, being a spring freshman means that you have a semester off — the college won’t be ready to have you show up on campus until at least January. You’ll still technically count as part of the same graduating class as the regular freshmen who started school in the fall and be called the same thing (so if they’re the class of 2020, for instance, you’ll also be part of the class of 2020).
These programs help schools to accommodate more students at one time, since winter graduates leaving the school make room in the dorms and classrooms for more matriculated freshmen.

But also I suggest you email AU and ask them how this works?
@imobamaself You would be shocked it is actually a lot easier then people think to land a Internship on the Hill. For civilians and non-citizens you have to go through the Congressmen or Senators website. If you have held a job on the Hill then you would be on a internal hiring list and would be receive weekly job postings via email before they go public.
My office actually had two Interns from Ireland last fall who were part of some exchange program. As long as Capitol Police and the Sergeant at Arms offices don’t deem you to be a possible hostile actor the hiring process should be fairly smooth. (As long as you parents and siblings are not with a Foreign Intel Agency you will be fine).
No email and no mail…hmmm.
Accepted in CT! Very selective this year so watch out… looks like the accepted under 11% or so of applicants. Very excited!
@student12322 My daughter just got her package today and also one of the 150 accepted to the mentor program with a Spring 2019 admission. We only received a small loan and nothing for scholarships. Appears if she did get any scholarships it wouldn’t apply until 1/1/9. There was an issue with her CSS so we were late in submitting so maybe there is still hope. They told us it would take a few weeks. We are visiting DC first week of April and will be going to AU campus.
Idk if I already asked this but how do I know if I got into the global scholars program?
^It will specify any special programs you have been invited to in the Admission letter. It is very prominent.
Accepted for the Mentorship Program and spring admission, but it doesn’t look like there’s any merit aid. Couldn’t make an account (and still can’t- I’ll have to call and ask about that). Hopefully there’s sign of merit aid on my account, because otherwise my family can’t afford AU.
@yayhamlet I got into the mentorship program too and because it is a non-degree program you don’t get any merit aid. Idk if there is a way to find out how much you will get in the spring semester tho
@kris345 yeah, that’s what I’m wondering about.
I live in Chicago and have gotten nothing. No letter, no email, and I just checked my portal and there’s nothing there. Is this happening to anyone else? What should I do?
Finally got my letter in Plano, Texas! I got into their mentorship program, which includes admission for the spring 2019 semester, and an internship this fall. The letter said that only 10% of applicants got in this year, so uh, wow.
My stats, for anyone curious, are 1440 SAT 3.5 UW 4.7W, ECs: President of writing club, Band, District Mock Trial, Internship at local law office, Teen Court, political activism
I didn’t show too much interest in the school, since the listed acceptance rate was 45%, so that might have something to do with why I didn’t get into the school for fall, (or maybe it was my terrible GPA) Good luck to everyone still waiting!
Wow, nothing again today in suburban Maryland, a 45 minute drive to AU. Admission via portal but still…shouldn’t take this long!
My daughter received a big, fat, envelope welcoming her to American today. She is on a spring break trip in Peru!!! I am anxious to know from those who were accepted if it said anything about special visit days for accepted students in April? She already got into her first choice of Fordham, but American was a close second (and who knows, could change to a first if she receives more merit at AU). I am anxious to check the calendar and book a hotel, but she is not home for another week, and out of communication. Can anyone share any info on admitted students day at AU?
Finally got my letter in Phoenix, Arizona and was accepted into the Mentorship Program!!
Yall I’m freaking out. I applied just on a whim for a biiiig reach school, and while I didn’t “get it”, I did get the mentorship program which only picks 150 people so I’m super excited! 3.0 GPA and 27 ACT, Chicago
