When I googled Auburn it appears there is an essay. However, I just did the online application and there was not a place to upload an essay. Anyone know if an essay is required for Auburn.
Sometimes colleges say they don’t have an essay requirement but they have short answer questions or supplemental essays. Did you make sure to go through all the sections of the common app? Sometimes colleges list it separately as “questions” that you would need to click on.
The essay may have been for the Honors College which was a separate application.
@threeofthree Have you/your child received the Honors College application yet? My D was admitted on 10/16, and meets all the requirements, but has not yet received the applications. We were told it will be mailed separately, but not when. Any knowledge on timing?
Atlgal …I just submitted my application the other day. I hope I did it right. What are the requirements for honors college? I used the Auburn online application (not Common App). There was not an essay. How long did it take after you applied for your letter of acceptance to come in the mail?
c5texas - The information is on the Auburn website - look up the Honors College and it will show the requirements. For the application in general, yes, you have to use the Auburn online app. Their decisions are rolling, so they say they get back to students in a few weeks typically. My daughter applied on 10/11, and checked her status in the portal on 101/6 and it said she was accepted. She received the official letter in the mail about a week later. Good luck!
atlgal - my son applied in 2012 for 2013 freshman year - been awhile. If I recall, all information is online and the admissions office was very helpful if you have questions.
atlgal2016, if you know your D meets basic Honors College requirements and you don’t hear within a reasonable amount of time, do check with them. My nephew’s invitation to apply was in a group that got lost in the mail a couple of years ago, but as soon as he checked with them they sent him another. My D is in Honors college (and dorm) this year - she highly recommends the Honors Week of Service prior to classes starting, if that is something that interests your daughter.
HandLMum, thank you - that’s good to know. She does meet the requirements, so she’ll reach out to them next week if she has not heard anything by then. A classmate of her just got his letter, and he did the general application several weeks before she did, so they may just be catching up. Thanks for the heads up about the Week of Service - I’ll make sure she looks into that. How is your D’s dorm experience? My D is definitely interested in the Honors Dorm.
Atlgal2016 - There are two honors dorms, one in the Quad (older, where I lived years ago!), and one in the Village (newer more apartment-style). She is in Eagle Hall in the Village and loves it. If you’re not familiar with the dorm types, Quad (and Hill) dorms have two two-person rooms connected by a bathroom, and Village dorms have 4 smaller individual bedrooms that share 2 bathrooms and a common area/kitchenette. She chose Village because she’s also doing ROTC, which is right next to the Village. She went totally random on roommates since we’re OOS and she didn’t know anyone else, and says she lucked out.
