I have officially decided to attend Auburn in the Fall. I have been guaranteed housing and requested either the Hill or the Quad. I will be an Engineering student, so what is the freshman engineering experience and is the hill too far away from my classes? Or does it not matter?
Thanks! War Eagle
Congrats. It won’t matter. Engineering is in the Shelby Center and adjacent buildings on the north side of campus. The Hill dorms are furthest from Shelby (15 min walk), but you’ll likely only be taking one class a semester there freshman year. Most of your typical freshman courses (calc, chem, physics, english comp. and distribution electives will be in the center of campus. S1 (freshman MechE) is in the Hill and it hasn’t been an issue.
It depends on what engineering track you are on that will decide which buildings you are in and as a Freshman/Sophomore you may spend more time in Parker and surrounding buildings for lower level classes. However, Auburn academic buildings are relatively close so you will never have too far to travel and the campus is very bike friendly. Get a bike, it’s well worth it. And a hammock, it’s also very hammock friendly - and the weather is just about ready for them. We visited one spring when my son was a high school senior and there were hammocks all over the campus hanging from every other tree…one of the first things my son asked for when we got home was a hammock and he took it to Auburn with him and has used it there many times.
