If you hit the accept button, are you committed? We haven’t hit it?
I don’t think it does anything other than accept the scholarship, which if our son decides to go to Auburn, he’d want the scholarship. I don’t see a downside to hitting the button, but maybe there is…?
Ok I went to their FAQ:
Is scholarship acceptance binding?
Scholarship acceptance is non-binding. However, a number of scholarships are re-awarded to other deserving students. Should a student wish to decline a scholarship offered by Auburn, he or she should do so through AUSOM at the earliest opportunity.
Out of curiosity, it shows $17k in each place? See pic where the letter is $17k but award amount on the side is $15k.
Thank you so much to those who explained the housing application.
Didn’t realize I need to state preferences. On the tour, they suggested you just get in queue and all of it is dealt with in spring.
So what are the preferences I am supposed to choose? Definitely on campus.
We need some time to figure out preference on location. Talk to current students etc.
Also, what ARE the best dorms/location for a boy admitted to business? Lol. Give me the scoop! He doesn’t know anyone else admitted so needs to figure that out.
Here are the different communities. I suggest you look through each of them and then look at where they are on the maps in relation to the business school. The Villages and the Quad are often the most popular because of their proximity to everything. Communities – University Housing
I’m so sorry for your disappointment. I did want to mention that you can still register standby for the Dec ACT. From what I gather it’s the regular $68 (plus an additional $68) - and you get it all refunded if you are unable to test. Not ideal, but in this case it may be worth it if you think it might secure a scholarship or an increase.
So, for next year’s applicants they should only apply if they have a 33 on the ACT otherwise, they need to be loaded with money in order to attend Auburn. Applying on the first day did not help either as all the ones accepted after that were given scholarships as long as they were in the top tier. It would have been really nice to have this information (top tier OOS state only to receive scholarship) sooner so that students could have opted to take the December ACT. I cannot find any standby registrations on the ACT website. It is just really upsetting that a 32 is not good enough for merit scholarships especially when this is your child’s top choice.
exactly. Last year EVERYONE in the tiers got their awards as long as they were in EA1, and even later EA rounds. Then they update and post the tiers on their website this year and lead us all on for months, allow our kids to get excited about attending, accept our housing deposits, and then lower the boom. It’s f**cking ridiculous.
Thanks for the follow up - he was looking at everything on his phone, which doesn’t look the same. We pulled up the desktop version and we do show the 17k on the left hand column.
Good morning everybody, just had a quick question about choosing housing. I was admitted last Thursday and got my housing email this Monday stating that I could choose my housing next Thursday, the 30th. Does anyone know exactly what we do once we are allowed to choose housing? How long do we have? Also, when choosing areas to live do you rank based on just the area like Hill, Village, etc. or do you have to specify which house inside of the area that you would like to live at? For example, if I wanted to live in the Quad would I also have to rank the dorm buildings in the Quad I would live at or am I randomly assigned a dorm in a building in the Quad?
My son just did his housing last week. You rank the areas (7 different ones) not specific buildings. Also, rankings are sort of irrelevant right now we were told because all you are doing is securing a place in line to participate in room selection in March. Fill out the application and rank the areas. Also, have a parent available to receive an email from housing that they have to acknowledge before the application can be processed- my son texted me from school that he was doing his application and I made sure to wait for the email and check the box. Once I submitted it back to housing he was able to complete the application. Pay the $100 application fee. In March I believe you are then required to actually pay the enrollment fee in order to participate in room selection. You select from whatever rooms are available. Rankings only apply if you are somehow in a position to not choose a room.
I may be a little confused so I am just going to give a scenario and could someone please tell me if this is accurate. Let’s say a student is accepted Out of State with a 32 ACT and approximately a 4.4 weighted GPA (using Auburn’s formula), are they not going to receive the Heritage Scholarship or the Charter Scholarship this year? In advance, thanks.
My understanding is that Fall 24 accepted students will continue be considered for merit scholarships if not awarded in Nov based on the FAQ posted on the AU website.
So with my fact pattern the OOS student with the 32 ACT and the 4.4 weighted GPA still has a chance of receiving a Heritage or Charter Scholarship?
FYI - reply below from for our AU advisor when I inquired yesterday about other merit categories not yet awarded. It sounded like more still to be awarded.
"Today, only students who were awarded the Founders and Presidential scholarships were notified. At this time scholarships have not notified those who were awarded the University scholarships.
I would have him continue to check his Auburn email as we currently do not have a release date for the University scholarships.

Does “University Scholarships” include Heritage or Charter Scholarships?
Spirit of Auburn University Scholarship is the last tier of merit for in-state students. I suspect the same would hold true for the other OOS merit not yet awarded but I did not ask that specifically.
So back to my original question is the OOS admitted student with 32 ACT and weighted 4.4 GPA not going to receive a Heritage or Charter Scholarship this year?
I don’t think anyone here can answer that for you unless they’ve gotten a direct answer from the university to that question. Given the variability in the awards and miscommunication cited above I suspect they are going to give a definitive answer.
This is pure speculation but I think surely they are, just maybe at lesser amounts than the estimated amounts on Auburn’s website. Hard to imagine they go from &15k/year estimated to zero merit aid for those stats. But if some of the presidential awards are at $15k, I think it’s reasonable to assume the second and third tiers will likely be reduced too.
