Audition for MT also considered for Drama if not accepted to MT?

My dd is a 2009 HS grad so we are beginning the process. For those with recent experience, can you address this question? I know that some schools like UofMich require 2 different auditions for each program. However, are there schools that will look at the MT audition and also consider those applicants for drama? Can you list schools that have traditionally done so?

Thanks so much!

Carnegie Mellon and Ithaca do it automatically...I know that at the Syracuse audition, on the application they give you the option of also being considered for both acting and musical theatre. For NYU, CAP 21 (musical theatre) can be a first choice studio, but other acting studios (like Meisner, Adler, Strasberg) can be second and third choices.

At Otterbein, where my D was accepted and is attending MT BFA, they made a point of saying that your MT audition would place you in consideration for the vocal performance, MT and theater programs both BFA and BA/BM. They specifically asked her at her audition if she would be interested in vocal performance even though in the end they offered her MT.

She was rejected from Syracuse's MT program but received a theater waitlist offer based on her MT audition alone.

At Western Michigan after auditioning for MT she was asked to go to a separate audition room for theater auditions. Based on that specific acting audition they extended a theater BFA offer. She was rejected for MT at Western.

My son had 3 MT auditions that also put him in consideration for BFA acting; Otterbein, University of the Arts and Webster. I believe Otterbein the consideration is automatic. For University of the Arts and Webster, he let them know at his audition that he would also be interested in their BFA acting programs. He was ultimately accepted at University of the Arts for their BFA acting program.

I think Oklahoma City University will consider you for theater BFA at MT auditions- I know you can audition once there for both BM MT and BM VP. Penn State requires separate auditions.

At the Marymount Manhattan auditions they had a form where you could check all that you were interested in: BFA acting, BA Theatre with MT minor, and BA Theatre which includes perfomance, writing and directing options.

So, you could be consdered for all three degrees, with one audition. My S didn't want to be considered for MT, or for the BA Theatre perfomance, either.

If you were not interested in MT you did not have to stay for the singing portion.

Thanks to everyone for your prompt replies...very informative!!
