I"ve searched and searched because I recall a discussion of this but can't find it.

Is it acceptable to bring copies of sheet music to a summer stock audition, or is it usually required to have the originals? (Note: I am NOT talking about college auditions)

[I know someone who showed up at a vocal competition recently with copies and her mom ended up driving 3 hours to get the originals because copies were not OK)

Copies are fine at summer stock auditions, Chris. Most MT actors have a "book" with their music in it and don't use originals at the auditions, particularly if the originals are part of a collection book. A three ring binder works with sheet music in protective covers.

In my experience, the only places my kids have had to have originals was in music (not theater) for adjudication purposes...such as All State Scholarship for voice or in National Piano Auditions or All States for instrumental music. It is the standard in adjudications in music. I have not seen that required in theatrical auditions, nor summer stock work. For some songs my D has sung in professional auditions, she doesn't even own the original.

Exactly! One time, my D had to get special permission to use a copy at a flute competition because the teacher in charge "lost" the original copy!
