Audition Requirements - Syracuse

Hey there, this might be more suited to the Specific Syracuse forum, but I thought it’d get more views here, and it’s kind of Urgent. Feel free to move it if it’s a problem.

My computer won’t navigate the flash on Syracuse’s website, and I can’t find the specific requirements for MT Auditions, and mine is the 26th! I have my standard materials done, I just want to make sure they all fit along the school’s guidelines as it is my first audition.

Thanks

You should receive an email from SU with links to the audition requirements and a complete checklist of all application materials, etc. that they need. You should receive that email any day now.

Just got back from D's Syracuse audition in NYC. Here's what she needed:
one 2 minute monologue
2 contrasting songs, limit 90 seconds each...sheet music for accompanist
dance - girls wear leotard and tights with jazz shoes
headshot and resume...doesn't need to be stapled together
brief statement: Why you are choosing a career in musical theatre.

Have a wonderful time, and break a leg!

Is 90 seconds....16 bars or 32??

90 seconds -- more like 32 bars...although some ballads may be closer to 16.

Do they prefer the monologue to be contemporary? Does it have to be from a published play?

Oh, and does one of the songs need to be pre-1960?

Can girls wear leggings or dance shorts over their leotards, or is it a strict dress code?

How long should the statement be?

Sorry for all the questions.

Thanks so much for the quick reply.

Try this:

College of Visual and Performing Arts : Department of Drama

Has anyone gotten a confirmation email for the January 19th audition because I haven't yet. All my transcripts and scores were sent over months ago, but I just recently sent in my headshot and resume with my MT statement. However I don't think they wouldn't send out an email confirmation just based on that.

SingerNLmusic, you did register online for the 1/19 audition, right? My kid applied to SU in October and registered for her audition as soon as online registration opened up. On 12/19, she got an email confirming her audition date and time for this coming weekend (1/12). If I were you, I would call the University to check up on your situation. (By the way, I think you were supposed to bring your resume, headshot/photograph and personal statement with you TO the audition, rather than sending them ahead.)

Yeah I registered months ago for the 1/19 audition, and I did get an email confirmation saying my spot was saved. The email also stated tha several weeks before the audition they would send another email specifying my audition time and procedures etc. But I haven't gotten THAT email yet and i'm wondering if something went wrong.

my S is auditionng with Syracuse this Sunday for acting. The instructions for their acting auditions indicate only contemporary plays.

We are auditioning 1/19 for acting. When we used the scheduling device it asked whether we wanted the AM or PM session - but this was for acting, though I think that both of us used the same automated reservation device. We have been formally reminded of the reservation.

I think that everyone who registered for either acting or MT auditions received a confirmation email and another email verifying that the student is expected at a certain time and place. And yes, they want to see contemporary monologues.

Yeah I haven't recieved my other email verifying anything yet. Maybe i'll just call the college of visual and performing arts and see what's going on.

Is it okay if my uptempo is less than 90 seconds?

I believe the website said "no more than 90 seconds" so you should be good. I'm doing the 32 bar cut of my uptempo which is about 1:11 and my 16 bar ballad which is 1:18

Just my other email today whoo hoo!!
