Auditions in NYC

Wondering if any current students or some who auditioned in previous years can shed some light on how the NYC auditions go? We have some type of schedule from the other schools for the weekend, but not much detail from Syracuse. Thanks for any info!

D will be auditioning for Syracuse this weekend at NYC and just received an email reminder today. Not much details except for the date, session time and location and the link to the school’s website. Hope this helps.

Yes, he got the same. Just curious as to how the few hours flow. Dance first, how long usually, voice first, etc? And, he’s trying not to pester the department folks if at all possible. My son auditions on Sunday morning. Tell your daughter Break a Leg!

I would assume he would do his monologue/songs first and then either be asked to dance or not after that? I know that is how CMU did their aud last year. I would think it would be nicer to do that first when they are dressed nicely. I think my D only had one aud last year where they danced first then did their aud pieces. However, I think I remember in Syracuse they broke the kids up in to groups. Some danced first while the others did their pieces.

Thanks. We were also at NYC Ripley-Grier Studios Sunday morning! I really like how everything is on one floor and only for Syracuse - and free WIFI, too :). I also appreciated how the Department Head and Chair Ralph Zito did the introduction and Q&A himself with a lots of humour - just shows the importance of MT for the school - it made SU among the top schools in our list! There were also vocal and dance warm-ups which helped the kids a lot. It was another positive experience for my D. Hope it was a good experience for your son, too.

If you have any questions my D is a Freshman MT at SU and loves it. I could hook you up with her for any specific questions. She is super busy so it might take a little bit to get back to you. And luckily this has been the mildest winter in Syracuse in a long time!

ParadiseMT,

I agree! It was a good morning, and we also appreciated the info session. I was unaware of the opportunity of the Aaron Sorkin session in CA, so that was exciting to hear. The warmups definitely made a difference. We’ll see what follows through March, but our son definitely enjoyed the audition and found it run quite differently from his afternoon audition. For what it’s worth, all of these off campus auditions are more convenient usually, but still costly and exhausting at times. I believe it serves every school to at least address the parents/guardians if only for about 5 minutes, since it’s usually we who are paying the bills.

If our son is fortunate enough to be accepted we’ll be visiting Syracuse in the balmy spring. We’ll keep you posted Lulu63 in case we might meet up with your daughter! Thank you!

Good luck! My D graduated from SU and attended the Sorkin week, a wonderful experience, and the Tepper Semester, which was worth the cost of 4 years of tuition!
