@40yearoldvirgin Have you looked into Muhlenberg’s MT program? It is supposed to be excellent as well. You don’t need an audition to get in, but you can audition for scholarship money. Also, don’t be discouraged by your PACE audition. There are many schools and many opportunities! My son didn’t pass the pre screen for PACE last year, but did get into multiple other great schools including Point Park, Viterbo, Milikin, etc. I might add, he didn’t do well on his first audition for Emerson either. I think you’re viewing it as a learning experience is an excellent attitude. My son auditioned for 17 schools last year and got into 11, but not his dream school. He decided to take a gap year, train and audition again this year. His first audition in early November was for Emerson’s MT program. He as accepted as an early action student in December. I guess what I’m trying to say is to keep at it, there is a place for everyone. Having done this for 2 years, my son and I are a lot more comfortable with the process. If you questions or I can help in any way, you can PM me as well. Also, are you attending Unifieds?
@msmommy I actually just found out on the phone that I can switch my first choice major to BFA, and complete the application. I didn’t apply at first because I didn’t realize they allow video auditions. Either way BA or BFA I will be happy–I’ll make sure not to get my hopes up though LOL! I’ll probably have a lot of questions to ask, so thank you
@martin247998 I am so glad to hear that it worked out for your son, and you must be so proud of his accomplishments! Gives me the motivation not to give up!! I was going to do some walk ins at the unfieds in NYC, but the blizzard made it impossible for us to get there.
@40yearoldvirgin …my son is loving the BFA program, but there is so much available at USC that I secretly wish he was in the BA program. Just more flexibility…which is the case between most BA and BFA programs. I think either way you would love the program. LA is a great place to be for acting. I always let people know that the opportunities to act in films for the SCA (Cinematic Arts) students is amazing.
@svamom did the academic acceptance come via e-mail, or snail mail? My D applied several days before the due date of Jan 15 and hasn’t heard back. (However I don’t think she checks the Pace’s portal often - she didn’t even know she passed the pre-screen until I pushed her check it yesterday… the notification was probably sitting there for a while. I try not to micro-manage her… )
@Guppie Im so sorry I am just now seeing this… Academic acceptance came via Snail Mail in a very large envelope. All academic scholarships are inside the packet and I believe it was on page 2 or 3. We totally missed it until the next day when I took it from my S room and went through it. Kinda funny Good luck and hopefully you hear soon. When is she auditioning?
@svamom , Thx for the info. She will audition next week in Chicago.
@Guppie Yea Good Luck!
Thx!
Can anyone say what dates the expected decisions will go out for these schools?
UNCSA
PACE
CMU
USC
Chapman
BU
Occidental
Drew
Drew is rolling admissions, BU and Chapman came out in March 15th ish…
Good chance chapman is today. Just received a general congratulations you’re accepted email.
Two years ago BU and CMU were “around” March 20th…
According to another thread, last year USC pkgs. were mailed on March 24th.
We were told today at auditions for USC that decisions will come out 4/1
Chapman accepted email came this evening. Expecting mail in a few days. I imagine all the others she’s waiting on will be in March (April 1 is so late!) 4 more auditions this weekend and then more waiting. Good luck, all!
@jbeansmom Congrats on Chapman! What program did your D apply for? S accepted into theatre performance!
Last year, my daughter received a call mid February from UNCSA, inviting her down for accepted students weekend. However, I hear that this year the notifications may go out later, as they are still auditioning for the next two weeks. The calls were a new thing last year. I don’t know if they will be making calls like that again.
It is frustrating how late USC is with decisions. In my D’s case I know the admissions decision has likely already been made within the Dept (this is for a BA in Thornton school). Do they delay it so that they can offer the financial package at the same time? I guess that would make sense…
I’m confused about Chapman: so, my S. got the general “Congrats on your admission to Chapman” last nite. The portal says status “decision reached”, with his 1st choice listed: BFA Screen Acting. (His second choice is BFA Acting and he said he was not interested in the Theatre BA.) So, does this mean he is accepted to the BFA Screen Acting? I called the general admissions office yesterday and the person said this most likely means that he got accepted into his 1st or 2nd choice, but she couldn’t say with 100% confidence…
I believe we have to wait for the chapman decisions that are being mailed… Until then fingers crossed on their 1st choice
