well, are auditions held before you attend the school or are they done after your freshmen year in order to choose the right people for the sophmore year of college?

does it depend on the school?

well, are auditions held before you attend the school or are they done after your freshmen year in order to choose the right people for the sophmore year of college?

does it depend on the school?

knotcanary, are you talking about BFA programs (college/university/conservatory) in musical theater?

If so, most programs require you to do an audition during your senior year of high school in order to invite you to attend the college the following year, when you are a freshman.

However, there also are colleges with good theater/drama programs that do not require auditions for admissions. Those schools decide who can enter using your high school test scores, grades, SAT scores, teacher recommendations, essays, extra curricular activities, interviews (if the school has 'em) and so on. A good example of this is Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. Muhlenberg offers a BA degree in theater that is very, very good indeed, but doesn't require kids to audition to get into the program. (However, kids who want to can and often do audition as an extra incentive for the school to admit them.)

Does this answer your question? If not, let me know and I can try again. :)

I think Point Park starts everyone who is going for MT out a a BA in Theatre and then you audition again at the end of Freshman year.

But you still have to audition to get into the school as a senior in high school

do all colleges make you have a dance audition?

Most do, some don't, such as Ithaca.

knotcanary -- As you research schools you will find that each school has different audition requirements. I think the "Big List" is a wonderful place to start to look for schools that offer a Musical Theatre degree. Go to the website for each school, check out the curriculum and the audition requirements.

Good Luck!
