Auto-admits still waiting for a liberal arts major?

<p>It's freaking me out that my son was notified that he was automatically admitted in September, but he still doesn't have an assigned major. His first choice was college of liberal arts (environmental science geography track). He has the #1 class rank and a 2160 SAT. Anyone else auto-admitted who is waiting on a liberal arts major?</p>

<p>Very weird. I have no insight, just wanted to tell you I agree it is weird. Is he up for any honors or scholarships? Could that be slowing down the process? Is he up for Plan II?</p>

<p>Are batches of apps assigned to different people? Maybe some work faster than others? Maybe LA just works more slowly? Is admission done regionally?</p>

<p>Anecdotally, one auto admit kid I know applied in November, got in, then got into CNS quickly, then got into honors after the first of the year. Another applied mid October, got in, got into business much later, like six weeks later. Both had stats like your son. I don’t have enough data points to draw a conclusion. LA is supposed to be a pretty open admission college. </p>

<p>Thank you, Lizardly. He did apply for several honors programs and scholarships. Applying for honors wouldn’t slow anything down. I don’t know about the scholarship process though. His first choice major is very tiny and they have limited spaces because of the lab component. So that could be slowing things down, I guess. I know two other students who got admitted to his major already, but they did not apply to the same track that he did - there are three tracks you can apply into for environmental science (geography, biology, and geosciences). I’ve tried calling admissions and they don’t offer up any information, other than just saying he’s in review. But thank you for your thoughts, it’s less miserable waiting if I can vent a little!</p>
