Automatic Admission, Major and Honors

I am trying to see if I am understanding the likely admission timeline and how the first and second choice majors will work. I will be the first one to say that I don’t think we have been very strategic now that I have learned more about UT admissions.
My son was admitted automatically. His first choice major is in Liberal Arts and I think he is likely to be admitted to that based on what I have read. He hasn’t heard about his major yet, although I am not sure that anyone has.
His second choice major was Business. Based on those two major choices, he had three honors applications listed in his portal, Liberal Arts Honors, Plan 2 and Business Honors. He completed the suggested applications but I have no idea if he is competitive for any of those.

Does anyone have any insight on what might happen next? Will the major decision come before the honors college decisions? If his first choice major is in the College of Liberal Arts, will he be considered for Business major or Business Honors?

Liberal Arts is a lot less competitive than McCombs, so I would think if that is his first choice, he has a much greater chance at being accepted into Liberal Arts than McCombs. That said, if he’s accepted into that, then I can’t imagine they’ll even consider him for BHP as again, his first choice is Liberal Arts, not McCombs. He’ll then probably be considered for Liberal Arts Honors and Plan II Honors, but then again, Texas does seem to go against the grain in how they do things! Also, from our OOS everyone I know is first accepted into their school and then they find out if they’re accepted into Honors or not, either than or at a later date.

Thank you for the information! I’m hoping maybe he will hear about his major soon.
