Auto Insurance

You might want to contact your auto insurer to let them know you're going away to school and won't be taking a car with you. My insurance company quoted me the reduced rates and it dropped nearly 50%.

how far apart is everything in bloomington?

I want to sell my car and just get a bike or something, but I am thinking that I might still need a car...

Bloomington itself is pretty spread out, as is the campus, but they do have a good bus system. My son did fine this year without a car, although I can't say he didn't wish he had one from time to time.

The big problem a freshman has with a car is that you are not allowed to park it in your dorm lot during the week. You have to park it by the stadium. But then when the weekend comes, you have to move it to the dorm lot, so the stadium lot will be open. It can be a bit of a hassle.

My son may get a car to take back next year, but that is only because he is an RA in a dorm a long way from where his classes will be, and it is really hard to ride a bicycle while carrying a double trumpet case. For the average student, a bicycle would probably get more daily use than a car. (There is a big shopping center within easy bike range, too.)

cool, thanks for the info

While I can understand that car insurance rates would drop 50% when going off to school in a nothing state like Indiana, and more over a nothing city like Bloomington, imagine how much your auto insurance rates would drop if you lived in a state like New Hampshire, where the welcome sign includes a comment that reads "New Hampshire drives with courtesy" just saying.

A nothing city like Bloomington in a nothing state like Indiana--and this is compared to the gigantic city of Hanover (population 11,124) in the gigantic state of New Hampshire (41st in population and 44th in size). I think the last person of note to come from New Hampshire was Daniel Webster--and he died in 1852.

Actually, Dartmouth does have a great MBA program (Tuck), though.

Apparently, "driving with courtesy" doesn't carry over to "posting with courtesy", though.

I don't see how attacking the population of my college's state is relevant to the cost of car insurance, are you simply trying to prove me correct by saying because we have a smaller state the car insurance will be less, I'm confused.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. I'm agreeing with you in every possible way. Everything you even think about saying is totally correct.

Now go post on the Dartmouth site instead of here.

I'm computer illiterate, where is the Dartmouth site? I thought this was just one general forum...it's not?

The lower rate of auto insurance has absolutely nothing to do with the state or city. You get a lower rate if you are an "away student"--that is, you are going to college out of state and not taking your car with you.

what national bank chains are in bloomington?

Only Chase

You're telling me you were able to find the hidden Indiana Forum, that only has a link under the Alphabetical List of Colleges tab (which ironically, Dartmouth is listed under too), but you couldn't find the Dartmouth site, which is under that same tab, as well as under the Ivy League tab, and has a link under the index? No, you're a bad liar.

I sent you a private message with the link to the Dartmouth forum. You responded with a "Thanks". Yet you still don't get it, and post here. I don't think you got into Dartmouth, or at least I would hope that a Dartmouth student would be smarter than this.

Here's the link one last time. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/forumdisplay.php?f=28

I'm going to take this to the Mod Council if you don't stop posting here. I'm sure everyone in this forum doesn't appreciate your posts, and you're bringing nothing to the discussion.

yea go away!! u ahole!!
