FYI...
For those current Texas high school juniors who are considering attending UT, Freshmen admissions updated the automatic admission percentage for your class on Thursday. For Fall 2012, the automatic admission cutoff is a class rank of 9%.

Interesting that it changed from 8%. Can someone explain why?

There could be multiple reasons it could change. Like size of incoming class, and size of graduating HS classes. Since the number set to fill what they project to be 75% of the class, it will shift some.

The way it was explained to my daughter by the Admissions office is that they take the current 2010 UT Freshman class that is enrolled through the 12th day of classes. Admissions then lists all current freshmen by their class rank (or approximation) and draws a line at 75%. The cutoff was at 8.3% to fill 75% of the 2012 slots. Due to the wording of the law, UT had to round down to 9%.

To me, this is a very odd way of determining automatic admission for a freshman class that is two years away from attending UT. But, so be the wisdom of Texas legislators. ;)
