Now that I have your attention… I need your help. Which of the following choices will look better on my college application.

I have taken the SAT 3 times but i think that i can improve should i take it again or would that be excessive. I have been practicing for the ACT but only average around a 31, is it even worth it?

OPTIONS:

 1. Took SAT 3 times: 2120 highest score

Took SAt 3 Times: 2120 highest score; took ACT once:31

Took SAT 4 times: 2200 highest score

Forget about taking it a fourth time. You can't guarantee that your score will raise, and four times to achieve that goal is excessive. I would recommend taking the ACT after you continue to practice; you'll at the very least gain experience, and at the best have another set of numbers to use for looking into safety, match, and reach colleges.

At my school they strongly discourage us from taking it more than 3 times, saying that after that it either has limited returns or more importantly looks bad.

But, important question. What are your 3 best scores? Colleges these days, for various reasons (sometimes marketing, sometimes to be nice / fair) will take your best section scores and combine them together. So if you had your highest score in each section on a different testing, you could be in for a good deal.

What's your value-added composite score, then? The highest score from each section from any of those three tests, added together... > 2120?
