Average college essay for Wharton

<p>My child is working on his college essay. His Academics are outstanding perfect GPA and has taken all the necessary AP courses and available to our school district. He also has alot of leadership extracuriculars. I am not sure if his essay will be amazing. Could he get rejected from Wharton with just an average essay? He is applying ED to Wharton. and he is National merit Semifinalist. and an AP Scholar with Distinction.</p>

<p>well taking calculus is good, that means he can actually apply. About the whole essay thing, from what I understand, the only way for people who are not extraordinarily talented and have hundreds of medals to make it into these schools is to be solid academically, which your son is, and write great essays. The essay is the one place where admissions officers can actually experience the person behind the statistics, so an average essay makes for an average seeming person. Tell your son to write the best essay he can, he won’t get rejected because he writes a bad essay, but, he won’t get accepted on account of an average essay.</p>

<p>^ exactly. Nearly everyone who applies to UPenn has amazing test scores and incredible GPA’s. You’re son, no offense, is no exception. In other words…he will be rejected for “average” essays. If his writing doesn’t make you go “wow…now this kid is special!”…then I would be prepared for a rejection letter.</p>
