Average college GPA?

i was wondering what the average GPA is at most schools? How many A's or B+'s do you need to get this gpa???

Some schools publish average GPAs. At top schools, they are around 3.2-3.3. Harvard is notorious for having a very high undergrad GPA around 3.5. Typically, engineering classes usually will give slight less GPA.

how do you get a 3.3? like 4 a’s and 1 b or…?

if you can’t do simple math, you should probably do some review before going to college

LOL

lame, soccer. just really really lame.

If you can’t handle some simple sarcasm, you’re in for a rough time in college…

You should probably just drop the college idea and join the marines. You need a wake up call badly.

Someone asked a similar question about UCSB a while back, and this was my post:

I guess it’s good to say that you shouldn’t get too hung up on grades, but you might as well know what you’re generally up against.

You can’t really say “4 A’s and 1 B…” because gpa is based on grades and credits. If you have a 4 credit class and a 2 credit class, the grade in a 4 credit class will have a greater effect on your overall gpa.

I’m sure there are gpa calculators online you can play around with.

The way my college does it is:
A+/A= 4.0
A-= 3.7
B+= 3.3
B=3.0
B-=2.7
C+= 2.3
C= 2.0
C-=1.7
etc, etc
Plus each class also goes by credit hours. For example, a class that is 4 credit hours will weigh higher on my GPA then a class that is 1 credit hour. So if I get a A- in a 4 credit hour class, and a C in a 1 credit hour class, it would be like: 3.7+3.7+3.7+3.7+2.0, divided by 5. So my GPA is 3.36. But your best bet is to get as many As as possible, and stay away from Cs! Those wreck your GPA!

^ C’s will definitely wreck your gpa! I learned that lesson :-|.

All schools are different too… some use +'s and -'s and some don’t, which can be good and bad! haha

Ds seriously wreck your GPA.
Cs are not that bad.

I had one D my first semester and I never recovered from it, even after making the deans list later on… I’m hoping to change everything now that I’ve transfered.

D’s destroy, C’s hold you back. haha

nice link LogicWarrior. I looked up the school I’ll be attending…I feel embarrassed to be “taken care of” like that…

Personally, I think soccersam should be more concerned with passing/graduating than a 3.3…

“If they all earn an A, it is not a sign of a problem, but of success… But maybe I’m just a hopeless idealist.” Tom Tritton, President, Haverford College

I know that the average GPA for first years at my Uni is 2.6

Personally, C’s really hurt when every other grade in a degree program was an A.

At my school, the average GPA is probably more like 2.5, possibly lower. That’s due to a. our school having rolling admissions, so anyone can get in, but a lot of the people that do come here just to play sports, not because they actually want to work, and b. the two majors that people really come here for are nursing and animal science (vet science, vet tech, or pre-vet). Those two programs are very good, and very challenging, so a lot of people’s GPAs suffer from the A&P or Clinical classes.
