Hi all, I was wondering what do you guys speculate is the lowest GPA that Brown University would take in if you have unique extracurriculars. This query is mostly for my own educational purpose in regards to deciding whether or not I should apply to Brown.
How low of a GPA are we talking about? Someone with a 2.0 or below, for example, would be unlikely to get in, since Admissions would be concerned if they can handle the coursework.
It honestly depends since every application is considered in context: if your GPA is a 3.5 UW but you’re ranked #1 in the class, that’s going to be considered differently from someone ranked #100. ECs being “unique” or not is also extremely subjective.
Has your school sent students to Brown or other T20s in the past? If so, I’d recommend speaking with your counselor as they would be in the best place to compare your GPA to those of past admits.
Hahah I have like about a 3.5 gpa but that’s because I’m moved around a lot, like different countries etc so I could never settle down. I’ve literally been in 5 different schools for the past 5 years. My school doens’t do class rank so I don’t know how helpful that would be.
Yes, they have but my counsellors aren’t very helpful and sometimes discourage students from applying to good schools even though it’s a private school??
You’re probably at the point where your application would still be considered but also not a sure-fire thing (though that’s true for most applicants), however, none of us are familiar with your HS to accurately assess your chances (+ no one but Admissions can do that). If you can afford the application fee and have the time, apply, since no one but Brown knows how they’ll read your application.
Have you taken the SAT/ACT?
That’s true, not everyone has like a 100% admission chance.
My school is a private school in an affluent town (I don’t think I could give out the name for security reasons, sorry!). It doesnt’ do ranking. Only 35 people do the IB Diploma out of 200 in my grade, I’m one of the 35 people. And the rest of the school can either take AP or some honors classes or just regular classes. Let me know what else you need to know.
I couldn’t take the SAT/ACT because it kept getting cancelled.
Do let me know what other information you need to assess my situation.
Having the IB diploma and any SL test scores is definitely helpful since you don’t have the SAT/ACT. IMO apply if you have the time and money, but make sure to still apply to safeties and matches. Good luck!!
I don’t… I’m taking the May examinations. Thank you! Are you applying to any ivies?
I’m currently a First-Year at Brown, so I applied last year.
Ok nice! What’s ur stats
Or ec’s? Xx
I’ll pm you!
Hi all! Not accepted, still awaiting a response but I was waitlisted with around an unweighted 3.6 after mid-year grades (raised from 3.49) and a 4.1 weighted after mid-year grades (raised from a 3.88). Tons of extracurriculars no SAT or ACT. 5 on AP Lang. 6 APs in total, 3 this year.
