Average SAT

jacknijj, glad that you get in, which school (wharton, cas or seas?)...btw, what is your stats & hooks, are you recruit?

she's not at penn. she went to another college but is considering transferring

:o she? I'm a man (lol). I dont know why I chose this name...I was reading the book Jack and Jill by James Patterson at the time...stupid me. Any way, Im at a city college in New York.

oh, ok. sorry. yeah, idk....i guess i focused more on the jill than the jack

Hah, I HATE the new SAT

Reading: 560 (all right so far so good)
Math: 590 (Sweet, its the equivalent of a 1550 on the old SAT)
Writing: 650 (No Comment)

...? Did you mean 760 + 760 or that it was the equivalent of a 1150? hehe Im assuming you meant the former...

Same here! Do you think this will do much for us, though? I've been telling myself it will, but I don't entirely believe what I say.

I don't think it will do too much but it does show that you’re capable of doing something 'right' the first try. I'm not sure how it is with UPenn, but as far as I can remember, someone from the admissions committee in MIT said that they recommend students taking the SATs specifically for each part. So 1st time you would concentrate on CR, 2nd math...I don't remember the details though, and that’s MIT, not UPenn, but if you’re capable of getting the highest score you can get on each section in your first try then that’s great :) I envy you

I only took the SAT twice and the SAT II once. Did ok on the SAT, but horribly on the SAT IIs, but I still got in, so I assume (trying to find a reason for my acceptance) that taking it only a limited amount of times will help you in some way.

My tests are a little all over the place. 33 ACT, 680CR+740M+770W. Math IIC 800, US History 770, Chem 720

Also, about the average SAT thing, the average of the 25th and 75th percentiles doesn't necessarily equal the average. While it's reasonable over such a large set of data to expect them to be somewhat close, they don't have to be equal. The group about that 75th percentile (740, 760) has a maximum of 100 points to improve, and you're probably looking at significantly more 1510s and 1520s than 1600s. Meanwhile, there's lots of room below 1330, and while most of those kids aren't getting accepted, the ones who are could easily be well below 1330 (legacy, know somebody, great essays/recs, etc) who would drag the average down.

One of my co-workers children was accepted ED at Penn with an SAT in the mid 1200s She's a hard-worker and will probably do just fine. She has a high class rank and is a motivated person and student.

It's probably not why she was accepted though.....main reason for being accepted.......legacy.
