Average students getting into college- post here

And let us know which schools you are getting into as well! This is valuable information that may help someone next year.

I have an 1120 sat, 4.0 gpa, 3 AP, 10 or so honors classes. I dunno if this is avr, or not, seems below what most ppl have on here.

Accepted to: Cabrini, Immaculata, Rowan, Rosemont, Rider
Waiting to hear from: Ursinus, Villanova
Rejected From: none so far :)

Not that there's anything wrong with being average, but why celebrate mediocrity?

(BTW--practically all people on this site, because you have to take the initiative and care enough to go on this site, tend to be not average. Its response bias, stastically speaking)

allena what community college do you go to? i've always thought tranferring from a cc into uc's was much easier than the way people in your cc expect to transfer to csun.

allena what community college do you go to? i've always thought tranferring from a cc into uc's was much easier and that tranferring to a school like csun was a last resort.

I'm going to College of the Canyons, it's out near Six Flags Magic Mountain. It's interesting because they very much do give you the idea that it is very easy to come into a CC and transfer into a UC. Start as far back as Jr. High they told us that you can come into the school, do 2 years with fair grades (B average) and transfer into UCLA. Well needless to say, even as a transfer you're going to need to do much better then a 3.0 to get into a top UC.

michelec: 4.0 GPA with honors and AP classes seem great. If your SAT scores were high in the 1400~1500's, would yer stat be ivy leaguish stat?. I've seen plenty of ppl with low SAT and high GPA and although most ppl say its not, it seems that SAT scores do play a very significant role in admission to top-notch schools.

Is SAT used to determine the grade inflation of the school?

freakish: "Not that there's anything wrong with being average, but why celebrate mediocrity?"

I don't think anyone is "celebrating mediocrity" here. Myself, I'm reading this thread because, in addition to a "walks on water" first child, off to college in the fall, I have a more average human being two years younger who will not go through a college selection, application, and admission cycle anything at all like the older child. I am reading here to feel happy and proud of the accomplishments and acceptances of students more like my younger child, and feeling more optimistic about what we'll be going through in two more years.

Thanks, everyone who's posted: congrats on your acceptances and best of luck for your futures.

1200, 3.3 uw? few leadership, no sports?

You can get information up the whazoo for the most selective schools. Every guide book has them, and many are even dedicated to them. It is a different story for schools that cater to the majority of kids in this country. Loren Pope made a great start with his books spotlighting a few of such colleges, but there is too little info on many of these schools that comprise the bulk of the colleges. There is no reason why a kid with average stats should not look at schools out side of the local area, but I have found that most of them do so. It is just as important for them to draw a bigger circle on where to go. Harvard and the other name schools are not the only places to go in Boston. Also many of these schools could become more national in student body if kids from elsewhere go there. I know a few kids at Suffolk, just down the street from Emerson, near Boston Commons, they love it there. Kids who go to Manhattan College so close to NYC love there. No reason those schools should not grace the list of non local students. One of the current biggest drawbacks of these schools is that too many of the kids come from local areas. This could change. The other is that there is a lack of information and name recognition that could also be changed. Why should gems like Flagler, York, St Mary's of MD, Wittenberg, be known only to the locals?

I find myself very average compared to most people on these boards. I have a 3.7 GPA on a 5.0 scale (B+ or A- I guess) with a 1040 on my SAT's and am applying and hoping to get into Rutgers. I have few EC, but I've also been working since I turned 16 and have held jobs since then. I guess that's pretty average?

are there any more "average" students out there?.. thanks to all that have posted - you've been a big help.

well i hate the sat's.

all im saying is that i got into a good school with a 990. :)

congratulations.. which college?

OMG. chasingfamezine is the first person on here that I encountered with a sub-1000 score--on CC a sub-1000 scorer as rare as an endangered Florida manatee! Let's capture him and put 'em in a tank before he gets away!

By the way, congrats for getting into the school of your choice.

elbereth- best post ive ever read

^ Lol...thanks aselig01 :D

I'm pretty average compared to the typical poster on CC.

SAT I: 1350 (M:600, V:750)
I have taken a mix of Honors/AP classes (including APUSH, AP Gov, & AP Spanish) and track-2 classes. I've been in track-3 math class throughout h.s. cuz I absolutely suck at math! :p

Weighted GPA:
9th: 3.3
10th:3.3
11th: 2.83 :(
12th (so far): 4.4

I've played the harmonium,an Indian classical instrument, since I was 9.
Clubs I've actively participated in include: Environmental Education Club, Model UN, and International Club. I've volunteered at a local hospital and library, and now hold a job at the library. Except for playing the unusual instrument, nothing really exciting in the ec department.

I've gotten into: Agnes Scott College (40k scholarship), Rosemont College (70 k scholarship), Albright College(8k minority scholarship), Bloomsburg U., Kutztown U., and Penn State (I applied to Abington campus first choice b/c I didn't think I could get into University Park w/ my low GPA)

I'm waiting to hear back from: Case Western Reserve University (yeah, I know--HUGE reach!) and University of Vermont

I will apply within the next week/month to: Arcadia University, West Chester University, Ursinus College, Gettysburg College, Muhlenberg College, Drexel University, and Lycoming College--maybe

I think i'm pretty avarage.

I have a 3.75 weighted GPA. Take mostly honors/AP's this year and last year took only a few honors and mostly academic classes (that's college prep for you non-cali kids). I haven't taken the SAT yet, however I'm taking a prep class and as of now my score is 1860 (720w, 620r, 520m). My EC's are minimal but i'm committed to them. I do some musical thearther and volunteering- which is what takes up the bulk of my time.

well, that's me in a nutshell.
