I’m in my last year at college. I returned after 10 years working. I’ve gotten a 4.0 the last 5 semesters I have been back. Before that I had a terrible GPA. I’m trying to get my GPA up to at least a 3.4. I have a required math class that I’m really struggling with. Do you think I should drop it and wait until I have already applied to grad school to take it? That way grad school admissions won’t see the grade and it won’t ruin my GPA.
Is the class optional, and will you have completed the required credits to graduate without it? If so then there does not seem to be much harm in dropping it.
What is the class? I was a math major in university so hopefully it will sound at least vaguely familiar. I do recall at least one math class that I could not handle at the time. I dropped it and no one ever seemed to notice (I still got into a good graduate program sometime later).
With ten years of work experience plus 5 semesters of strong grades it would seem likely that whatever grades you had 11 or 12 years ago should not matter much if at all when it comes to graduate school admissions.
My daughter left a dreaded math class until ‘later’ in her undergrad career. Two good things happened. First they changed the requirement from two required classes to just one, and an easier one. Second, I figured out there was a course at our local state university that would meet the requirement, and she could take it in the summer. She did, and got an A! Her sister, who is good at math, was around in the summer to help her but she really did fine on her own.
So i think you should drop it if you have a good plan on how to get the credits you need. Next semester? Online course? Another school?
