Awaiting decisions

Anyone else on pins and needles? My D auditioned exactly 2 weeks ago, and has spent the past two weeks with fingers crossed. She was surprised how much she liked Mich. I have perused other threads and there has been some discussion of a phone call. Does anyone know if all accepted kids get a phone call prior to written notification?

Please be aware that another possible scenario at UMich is that you don’t hear for a long while and your daughter is still in consideration until they hold most or all the auditions. Some will hear sooner yay or nay but they don’t do all of their acceptances on a rolling basis and reserve some under consideration until they have held most of the auditions. Just so you know.

The way it was described to us at the parent meeting held on the audition day was that there are three possible decisions after each audition weekend: Yes (yeah!!!), No :frowning:
or “maybe”. The “maybe” is in actuality being notified that your decision is being held until the end of the audition cycle for a final decision. We are of course hoping for either a “yes” or a “maybe”.
We are also getting some pressure from some HS teachers about missing some school days to travel to these auditions which is putting even more pressure on an already high pressure admission process!

I don’t know about a phone call, but it is pretty normal to receive a notification of some sort on the second Friday following the date of the audition.

I am in Ann Arbor today visiting my MT son and when visiting with 2 of his friends who are audtioning today, confirmed that others who have auditioned have received correspondence exactly 2 weeks after their audition. Hopefully you will hear something today.

Good luck with the journey :)

I auditioned 2 weeks ago for theater, but this is how it worked for me, I’m not sure if it’s different for MT.
They told us the same thing- in 2 weeks you’ll get one of 3 things (yes no maybe). Last wednesday I had 2 missed calls from Michigan, but they didn’t leave a voicemail. I thought maybe one of my transcripts didn’t get there so I checked on Wolverine Access and the ‘View Decision’ link was up, and it said that I had been accepted!
About 5 days later, I got and email from the head of performance saying congrats and that same day I received my packet.

That’s how it worked for me this year- it may be the same for MT, maybe not. Best of luck ! :)

That is my understanding as well and I don’t know whether the Drama process is different than MT but I will ask my son when I see him in between classes today, as he has done some work in the administrative office so he might know if they are different. I am also not sure whether the Drama BFA has more students or not. For MT, I believe they look to choose approx. 10 boys and 10 girls. My son’s freshman MT class is exactly that, but other years have been a little different with the numbers so I don’t know if they notify differently.

For drama they told us they wanted a freshman class of around 15 to 20- but I’m a transfer and I don’t know if I’ll be included in that number or added to the sophomore class yet (hopefully the latter- we’re figuring out credits right now!)

What do you all recommend for dealing with HS teachers giving the student grief about traveling to auditions for college programs as BHMomma described?

I am still wondering of only the “yes” receives a phone call. My D auditioned two weeks ago tomorrow and this afternoon she will be on her way to another audition with her Dad tomorrow. This will be the first audition I don’t attend, and I had hoped to see her face when (if) she gets the phone call and relays the information to me. Yikes what a process these kids go through!

My daughter is a freshman MT and she auditioned on March 6th last year, so quite late in the process. She received her acceptance in an email about a week later, then her wolverine access changed. There could have been a phone call, but we missed it and no message was left. For MT this year, I only know of one girl accepted so far. Good luck to Bhmomma, Michigan is a GREAT program!!!

Have fun in Ann Arbor Britbrat, wish I could be there too!!!:)

bhmomma…I also wanted to add how sorry I am that some teachers are giving your daughter a hard time for missing school for auditions. It is such a stressful and exciting year. At my daughter’s high school there was no understanding of the process or of the difficulty of being accepted, they were totally unaware of the acceptance rates to programs like Umich. Hoping for the best news for you, soon!

Also, big congratulations to Monologue for her acceptance to the acting BFA program!! So excited for you, you will love it!!!

classicalbk and bhmomma:

Maybe a letter from the parents to the teachers involved regarding the process these students are going through. I believe most of the problem these teachers have is their lack of knowledge and understanding of the process and its importance in these students lives. Maybe attitudes would change with a little education, it couldn’t hurt to try.

I actually started another thread about this in the MT majors forum to get more feedback. It may be my perception, but in a private, college prep environment, that does not have a large performing art presence (growing with current choir director) I am getting the feeling that her pursuits are “extra curricular” in nature and not the same as a science kid missing for a big science fair!

Does anyone know how you are contacted if you are being deferred? Will it be listed as your decision on Wolverine Access/will you get a letter stating you are deferred?

IHeartSondheim…When did you audition?

This is why I’m glad I’m auditioning on March 6th, although there is the small chance that no spots may be left, it is impossible to be deffered as it is the last audition. Its either a yes or a no!

It’s not true that “no spots may be left”. Schools do not bother to hold auditions if they have filled their slots. Applicants are considered from every audition day. I can tell you that my kid got into some BFAs where she auditioned on their last audition day.

I auditioned on the 15th.

Does anyone know about how many get deffered?

your status will not change on wolverine Acess. You will recieve a letter
