I had my interview about a week ago. The alum was a doctor and worked in downtown SD. I was interviewed for about an hour and it was awesome. One really poignant thing I remember him saying about Cornell is how down to earth their students they are. HYP and all the other Ivies tend to have students who think they are god's gift to the world, but Cornell students just seem to be really modest about how brilliant and bright they really are. I applyed and I hope I get in, so far things have been really positive. Anyone else wanna comment on their Awesome Perspective on Cornell????

Well think about it - everyone knows the rankings are worthless. Their criteria include selectivity and "number of donating alumni". Basically Cornell is getting shunted lower than HYP etc. because it has a higher acceptance rate...but I like to think that Cornell accepts PEOPLE, as opposed to Achievatrons. The people who elect to go there are the ones that don't NEED the relative prestige of an HYP degree but still want a great education and to meet like-minded, awesome people lol

I think a Cornell diploma would be as fabulous as a HYPSM diploma or whatever that acronym is. Just because there's no C, Cornell is still an ivy and should have as much prestige as harvard, yale, and princeton. stanford and MIT aren't even in the league.

Ivy League is a sports league though, but how come the league contains only the eight schools who are academically strong ?

Who cares about "prestige" or the fact that Cornell's an IVY?

IT JUST ROCKSSSSSSSSSSSS

i do, the Ivy class demands great respect, and is known all over the world. in engineering, Cornell isn't ranked in the top. but why then would so many qualified students chose Cornell over another school which is 'better' in a certain field? because of the "prestige" that the Cornell name bears. plus, the school just rocks :D

i thought cornell had a really strong engineering program?

I'm a freshman here now at Cornell, and you all are right Cornell simply ROCKS. I chose Cornell because it had a great atmosphere, and it was to my liking. The IVY name really had no affect on my choice, with the exception that I knew the sports team wouldnt be that great lol, except Hockey (GO BIG RED). Choose a school because you like it, not because of the name it is endowed with.

ah, no bother arguing this.

I LOVE CORNELL!!!

Out of all the ivies i felt as if it was sorta the outsider...in a good way though

we're big....and strong....haha

Rather than refuting any generalizations about HYP students, I'll comment on something else. ;) My brother goes to Penn and feels the same way about Penn not being part of the HYPSM acronym. He hates that so many people (who obviously live under rocks and know pretty much close to nothing) think that the University of Pennsylvania is the state university of Pennsylvania. And my friend who was just accepted to Cornell hates that some people (who clearly live under even bigger rocks) don't recognize Cornell as an Ivy. I think that this sort of thing that you Cornellies (sorry, I don't know what you're called) share with Penn students requires a more down-to-earth kind of personality in that the way you think is obviously not altered by any amount of prestige. And I think that's pretty cool. :)

I would say the same applies to Brown and Dartmouth students as well.

Oh of course, especially Dartmouth. Someone I was talking to just the other day was surprised when I said that Dartmouth is Ivy.

No, no I mean the down to earth people part. As for the name, honestly 85% of people know Cornell, Dartmouth, Brown, Penn, etc. I was shocked how in Ohio everyone knows Dartmouth. Obviously not as much as Harvard or Yale, but personally I like it better. People think you are smart, yet its not intimidating like Harvard.

we're(actually they're) Cornellians ;)

don't forget Columbia, too.

remembber, Cornell also has a really cool public policy program...everyone always forgets about it

Cornellians... flows better than Cornellies.
