Awful 2 Years, Now CC Transfer Chances

So I had an awful first year and a half at USC, dropped most classes and now I have a 1.96 GPA there. I left after those two years and now I'm at a CC at home in NJ. I've been doing great here and plan to have an associate's degree in business administration after spring semester with about a 4.0 GPA. (This may actually require a couple classes over the summer or maybe pushed back until fall.) After I get my associate's degree, I plan on transferring, I'm just not sure where or even what kinds of schools to be looking at, given my awful two years in California.

i'm not even sure where to look for schools, but off the top of my head nyu (huuuuuuuge long shot, we can dream can't we?), fordham, rutgers (instate), tcnj (instate)

any suggestions for what schools to look at?

You seem to be as qualified as possible for a transfer student. I’m not sure about the specific admissions criteria from school to school but I’d say you have a good chance at Rutgers, TCNJ and Fordham, just because they’re not very highly ranked.

Unrelated question here… what happened at USC?!

Why not apply to NYU and see. Your scores are terrific, and GPA is excellent. Just have to have some kind of explanation for your performance at USC.

I had a lot of problems adjusting to college. I was on my own for the first time, I was all the way across the country in a completely different scene, LA is a huge city nothing compared to NYC, almost impossible to get around without a car, it’s almost entirely private school kids from LA who all knew each other (or so it seemed), I went from being a big fish in a small pond to a small fish in a big sea…many things went wrong :/

No knocks on USC, it’s a great school, just not for me

Just thought of a couple more things. I’m planning on taking classes over winter break and summer break in order to get my associate’s in one year and transfer ASAP. Is there any disadvantage to this as opposed to doing it in two years? i.e. two years of good grades (showing more of a pattern of good grades) vs. one year of good grades (showing possibly a fluke)? or will they just care that I have my associate’s with a high GPA?

Also, I know my chances at NYU aren’t very high already, would they become infinitesimal at Stern?

Lastly, can anyone recommend any other schools to look at?

I’m assuming u are trying to be a business major? Your SATs look great! But you do have a lot of explaining to do for your performance at USC.
Perhaps try Carnegie Mellon and UMichigan Ann Arbor? Maybe even Haas at UC Berkeley?

Can’t edit this, but forgot to add I am also a National Merit Scholar, as well as a National Hispanic Scholar (National Hispanic Recognition Program).

I would prefer to be in a business program yes. Are there any undergrad business schools that are transfer friendly, both in the sense that they are relatively easier to transfer into and they do a good job of helping integrate transfer students into the student body?

Do I have any chance at any of the top LACs? I turned a couple of them down after high school and now I’m kicking myself when I think of what a difference their small size would have made for me.

Should I even be considering LACs with my interest in business? I mentioned them because they tend to have smaller classes in which I feel I have a better chance to excel.

Anyone know anything about transferring to LACs?

What are my chances at these schools?

U Texas-Austin (McCombs Business school)
Northwestern
Emory (Goizueta Business school)
UNC-Chapel Hill (Kenan-Flagler Business School)
U Penn (Wharton Business school)
Rutger’s New Brunswick (Business school)
Fordham (College of Business Administration)
NYU (Stern)

Or rather than Stern, what if I did the Sports Management program at NYU-SCPS?
