Hi I'm scheduling for my senior year and I'm not sure about one of my classes. Right now I'm taking 4 APs and 1 business elective, but I'm not sure about which language arts/english class to take. It would basically come down to a B in AP lang or an A in LA honors. So far I only have one B throughout high school but if I take 5 APs senior year I'm gonna definitely have one B at the end of first semester. Which do you think I should take?

A’s. 10char

The AP. You can get an A if try hard enough, a B won’t kill you.

Just my two cents. :)

I would take the AP.

Oh, and Lakers do rule. You should try Lakersground.net if you want to talk about them.

Take the AP. One B senior year isn’t going to kill you. And plus, you don’t know that you will get a B next year…

alright thanks a lot guys

I would recommend taking the AP, colleges want to see that you are challenging yourself, even if that means that your gpa drops a little bit

As colleges would say, getting the A in AP is the best option.

Seriously, take the AP and try hard in it.

Search function my friend.

Your answers will vary, but most adcoms will smile and say “the A in the AP.” Take from that what you will. My vote is to take a rigorous class schedule tailored to your strengths. So, take the APs in classes that interest you enough to put in the extra hours of homework and studying, but don’t take a unnecessarily hard course just for the sake of it.

Well I already am taking 4 other APs so it’s not like im slacking and I’m not gonna work super hard for an A in my fifth AP because I’ll already have other classes to worry about and it’ll be senior year… I’ll probably just take the honors.

Colleges like to see that you are challenging yourself academically. They’d prefer for you to get an A in an AP course, quite frankly, but a B will suffice over a “regular” course. It also stands out even more if you’re taking 4 APs, and 1 regular course. They think of it as something similar to a sign of “weakness.”

Take the A in honors. It is still a weighted course. I opted for Enr. Essay Writting and Humanities (both honors) instead of Ap Lit. It’s seinor year for crying out loud

If you are in the top 10% you should consider doing the AP for the high class rank.

But if your GPA is like below ~3.5 you should do the honors for the grade. Or if you are like 40% class rank the AP isn’t going to help as much as the A grade.

well I would be top 10% but my school doesn’t rank so its all good. I’ve only had one B (3.95 unweighted) so I don’t think it would be worth getting another B right?

I dont understand everyone’s logic. An A in an Honor course and an A in AP net you the same 5.0. Why in the world would getting the A in AP help his GPA more than the A in Honors…

^Not all schools weigh honors courses the same as AP courses. Sometimes, honors are weighted as 4.5 and APs as 5.0.

^ Yeah, like at my school Honors only get a 4.0, whereas AP gets a 5.0.

But I had a really similar dilemma last year, I had chosen 5 AP’s and was teetering on whether or not to take AP Lit. I ended up choosing the AP over the honors (mostly because of my parents’ pressure). It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and I still managed an A first semester. My advice would be to take the AP though. The B won’t really hurt, but having all AP classes really stands out. Good luck!

In senior year, a B won’t really matter. You’ll likely have decisions before then, even for the schools for which you don’t, two B’s doesn’t matter, and I’d bet gobs of money that no one has ever been rescinded for getting a B.
Senior year is great because you’re more free to take risks. I decided to take Physics C. Sure, I’m struggling for C’s right now, and to be honest, I’m not even learning that much, but I am learning how to be a small fish in a big pond, and how to be irredeemably bad at something, which I think are worthwhile lessons.

I’d take the AP.

They aren’t hard. Easy to maintain a 93.

Well class difficulties are different for every school. I’ll probably just take it and see what happens.
