<p>I'm going to be a sophomore next year, and I may be able to IB Math HL (my school is allowing this) if I teach myself PreCal over the summer. Is it detrimental if I take IB Math HL next year and have a B, opposed to an A in PreCal. In college, I want to major in something heavily math related, such as engineering, comp sci, etc. I also go to a lot of math competitions. Which class should I take?</p>

<p>Don’t take HL math early, you can’t take the HL exam until your senior year and you don’t want to have to skip a year, or retake the class, or do the work for HL but just take the SL exam and not get college credit.</p>
