So I was advised by my college counselor during the school year to take an American Art History class at COMMUNITY COLLEGE A this summer in order to fulfill an apparent UC art requirement.

According to her, I couldn't take a Drawing or Painting or whatever class to fulfill this Art requirement. (Wasn't aware of this until she told me, and I'm not really sure if what she said is right, but whatever.)

I took the class this summer at COMM COLLEGE A. Semester ended, and it was pretty challenging. Plus it was only based on a midterm and a final. I'm looking at getting a B to a B+, which isn't bad according to the professor who says B's are "excellent" and that he only gives A's to "superior" students.

I currently have a 3.8 UW, 4.1 W GPA, plus another Psych class taken at COMMUNITY COLLEGE B which I recieved an "A" in last year. BUT HERE'S THE CATCH: I took this Psych class at a DIFFERENT community college, thus, there's a different transcript to be submitted. So... what I'm asking is this.

Is the B to B+ that big of a deal, since it's a community college grade and it's only an art requirement?

Should I pretend the grade at COMMUNITY COLLEGE A never happened, and try to take another art class either at my high school or at COMMUNITY COLLEGE B during the Fall semester? And when I'm ready to submit transcripts, just submit COMMUNITY COLLEGE B's transcript?

Note: I'm applying to highly selective schools that include USC, Cornell, Northwestern, UCLA, UC Berk, etc.

Your sarcasm is hilarious and all, but I hope you realize that I KNOW a B isn’t a dreadful mark. That’s why I’m ASKING if I should even retake the class. But if you knew anything about how cutthroat admissions are, you would understand my concern. A B+ can hurt.

OMG your situation is sooooo serious! like you should’ve bumped every minute instead of waiting for THREE WHOLE MINUTES!

however cuthroat it is, if there’s not much difference between a 2300 and 2400, there’s not much of a difference between one B and one A.

And I’m sure they’d much rather have a kid who gets Bs and not freak out about it than kids who work their ass off to make sure they don’t get a B and act as if their life was over when they do get a B.

Your reasoning made sense in the second line, but your third line makes absolutely no sense. Even if that was important, why would a college want a B student who doesn’t care that they get B’s over a hard-working student who strives for A’s but gets a B once?

But I don’t even know why I’m trying to make sense of your ignorance. If you haven’t noticed, this is a college admissions board, and I’m trying to get an admissions-related question answered. Anyone applying to schools of this caliber would be worried. The bottom line is that I don’t want a stupid community college grade (that I might not have even NEEDED) to affect the adcom’s decision.

one or two Bs will not affect your admissions; class rank is much more important.

If you actually tried to search, you’ll find tens of similar threads all receiving the same answer. It’s ridiculous how much people care about a little letter that teachers assign you.

All the arguments people made are valid. Plus, it’s illegal to “pretend the grade at COMMUNITY COLLEGE A never happened”: college apps specifically say you need to submit transcripts from everywhere you’ve taken a class for credit.

Why is it necessary for everyone to be so rude to me? If you understand the level of schools I’m applying to then why is it so difficult to understand that I’ll be concerned about a B?

Since you obviously seem a bit insecure about it, why not take another art class and work your butt off to get an A in it? But honestly, I don’t think the B will really matter. Colleges understand that community colleges especially have fluctuating standards, I’ve seen tons of CCers get Bs & Cs in community college courses and end up at Ivy League/top-tier schools.

A B!!! Oh no, only the best applicants cut themselves and whine over a B!!! God help your soul if you get an A-

But seriously, just tough it up and live with it. I’m pretty sure if you had mostly A’s a B wouldn’t hurt half as much. Your class rank would probably go up as well lol

I’ve seen you post around here and make some incendiary remarks and am wondering where you stand as far as the college admissions process. Are you in high school or in college and have you applied anywhere yet?
